Servus,

ich muss mir u.A. ein neues Board zulegen und bin dabei über das Taichi gestolpert.

Was mich bisher davon abhält ist die Frage, wie die Lanes an den PCIe 16x - Slots verteilt sind. Aus dem Handbuch werde ich leider nicht schlau, bzw. bin ich mir unsicher.

Ich benötige für meine Soundkarte einen PCIe-4x-Slot. Der obere ist nach Recherche bei großen Luftkühlern nicht zu benutzen und der unter dem ersten PCIe-16x durch die Grafikkarte verbaut.
Somit müsste man die Soundkarte in dem letzten PCIe16x-Slot verbauen. Wird die Grafikkarte dann noch mit vollen 16 Lanes oben angesprochen, oder teilt sich das dann bereits auf 8 Lanes?

Wenn Du diese Anzeige nicht sehen willst, registriere Dich und/oder logge Dich ein.
Das Handbuch schaue ich mir nun nicht extra an, aber diese Angabe reicht mir auch schon:
Tripple mit x8/x4/x4 deutet sehr darauf hin, dass alle 3 Slots mit Lanes von der CPU versorgt sind, also bei Nutzung von 2 oder allen drei, der erste nur noch 8 Lanes für die Graka hat. Suche Dir ein anderes Board aus, wenn Du dies nicht möchtest. Es gibt genug wo bei Tripple dann x8/x8/x4 steht, da es aber nur 16 Lanes direkt von der CPU gibt, kommen dort die anderen dann vom Chipsatz und wenn man nur den obersten Slot nutzt, dann hat man dort x16/x0/x4, was auch meistens so geschrieben steht.
 
Heute Nachmittag durch Zufall gefunden; Im Handbuch steht auf einer anderen Seite - genauso wie bei meinem Extreme4 - x8/x4/x4. Jedoch lief mein Extreme4 ja auf x16/x0/x4. Ich glaub, ASRock ist das bissl faul, was die Angaben an geht.

Hab mir jetzt auch ein anderes Board gesucht. Vielen Dank! :)
 
Also im Handbuch des Z390 Taichi auf S. 21 unter 2.4 steht in der Tabelle bei Single Graphics Card für PCIE5 N/A und ebenso bei zwei Grakas. Auch im Handbuch des Z390 Extreme4 steht auf S.19 das gleiche, nur mit PCIE6 statt PCIE5 als dritten Slot. Ob dies nun bei beiden falsch ist, kannst Du ja ausprobieren indem Du mal Deine Soundkarte in diesen PCIE6 Slot steckst und dann z.B. mit HWInfo schaust, ob die Current Link Width des Graka von x16 auf x8 fällt.
 
Wie gesagt; das Extreme4 hat es erlaubt, die Soundkarte in den untersten Slot zu stecken. Die Grafikkarte wurde nach wie vor mit 16 Lanes angesprochen ( CPU-Z damals ausgelesen ).
Das Board ist inzwischen defekt, wie Du vllt weißt ( anderer Thread ), daher fallen nachträgliche Tests flach. ;)

Habe jetzt das "MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon" bestellt. Im Handbuch steht: x16/x0/x4 - also sollte das so funktionieren.
 
Zeigt CPU-Z nicht nur die mögliche Anbindung an? Bei HWInfo64 bin ich sicher, dass es die tatsächliche und die real verwendete Anbindung anzeigt, daher bevorzuge ich diese Informationen dort abzulesen.

Aber bei ASRock ist die Dokumentation echt teilweise copy & paste, ohne auf eventuelle Besonderheiten einzugehen.

Verbaue gerade ein paar X570 Taichis, laut Spezifikationen werden PCIE 1 und 3 von der CPU versorgt und laufen mit x16/x0 oder x8/x8 (dieses Verhalten kennt man ja). Allerdings scheinbar nur, wenn das UEFI in PCIE 3 eine Grafikkarte erkennt, habe eine x8-Netzwerkkarte dort verbaut und mit HWiNFO bestätigt (auch neueste Beta), dass diese Kombination mit x16/x4 läuft, also alle 20 PCIe-Lsnes der Ryzen-CPU genutzt werden - gibt bislang keine Möglichkeit, das manuell auf x8/x8 festzusetzen, damit die Netzwerkkarte ihre volle Anbindung erhält (2 x 40 GbE XL710).

Das könnte sein, aber dann macht es weder Sinn das für den 3. Slot x4 angegeben wird, wenn alle 3 belegt sind und in den anderen beiden Fällen N/A für den dritten. Ich habe gerade noch einmal eine ältere Version von CPU-Z gestartet die meine Graka noch nicht kennt und die zeigt bei "Bus Width" nichts an, was darauf hindeutet, dass diese Information aus einer Hintergrunddatenbank stammt und damit die maximal mögliche Anbindung anzeigt, also nicht wirklich die tatsächliche Anbindung ausgelesen wird, wie es bei HWInfo64 definitiv der Fall ist.

Das kann so nicht sein wie Du es schreibst und macht auch keinen Sinn. 16 Lanes der CPU gehen alle auf PCIE1 oder werden in x8/x8 auf PCIE1 und PCIE3 aufgeteilt. PCIE5 bekommt 4 der Lanes des X570, die auch noch mit M2_2 geshared sind.
M2_1 ist der Slot mit den 4 Lanes des internen Chipsatzes, die sind mit nichts weiterem geshared, stehen also immer zur Verfügung.

Da 8 SATA Ports genutzt werden, bleiben noch 12 PCIe Lanes vom X570 übrig, davon gehen 4 fast an M2_2 und 4 werden zwischen M2_3 und PCIE5 geshared. Von den 4 übrigen gehen 2 an die beiden x1 Slots und die anderen beiden dürfte für Onboard Controller (wohl LAN und WLAN) genutzt werden. Damit steckt bei Dir entweder die Netzwerkkarte im PCIE5 Slot, dem von der CPU aus gesehen unterstem der mechanisch x16 breiten Slots oder die Graka hat keine 16 Lanes zur Verfügung. Poste doch mal die Ausgabe von HWInfo64.

Ich hatte die Spezifikationen des X570 Taichi bei der Komponenten-Auswahl genauso wie Du gelesen (und habe x8/x8 erwartet), bis ich das erste System damit gebaut habe:

PCIE 1: GPU (Radeon Pro WX 8200, läuft laut HWiNFO mit x16)

PCIE 3: LAN (XL710, eigentlich x8, läuft laut HWiNFO mit x4)

PCIE 5: Thunderbolt-Karte (Gigabyte GC-Titan Ridge, läuft laut HWiNFO mit x4)

M2_1: Optane 905P #1 (läuft laut HWiNFO mit x4)

M2_2: Optane 905P #2 (läuft laut HWiNFO mit x4)

Anders als mit reingeschalteten PCIe-Lanes der Ryzen-CPU in PCIE 3, die eigentlich für NVMe-SSD gedacht sind, kann ich es mir nicht erklären wie das System sonst so laufen kann.

Poste doch mal die Ausgabedatei von HWInfo64. So wie Du es beschreibst, kann es nicht sein, da es dafür nicht genug PCIe Lanes auf der Plattform gibt.

Sorry, Haushaltsaufgaben kamen dazwischen. Glaube es ist ein Anzeige-Bug von HWiNFO:

Dagegen ist beim Bus Report bei der Vega einmal x8 und einmal x16, wobei x8 das richtige zu sein scheint, auf der grafischen Übersichtsseite scheint HWiNFO64 fälschlicherweise (?) für die GPU die PCIe-Eigenschaften von "AMD Vega10 - Switch Downstream in NBIF" anzuzeigen.

Wenn ich das richtig sehe, dann ist PCIROOT(0)#PCI(0100) der X570 und alles wo Location Paths mit PCIROOT(0)#PCI(0100) beginnt, hängt daher am X570 Chipsatz, also:
Intel JHL7540/JHL8040 Titan Ridge/Burnside Bridge Thunderbolt Switch
Intel Optane 900P/950P NVMe Controller (U.2)
sowie die ganzen SATA (zwei mit je 4 Ports) und USB Host Controller des Chipsatzes und onboard ein
ASMedia ASM1184 PCI-E Switch an dem ein unbestimmter Intel Netwerk Controller hängt (WLAN?) sowie der Intel I211AT NIC
Die Netzwerkkarte hängt also wie erwartet da ganz sicher nicht an Lanes des X570.

Deine Intel XL710 hat den Location Paths PCIROOT(0)#PCI(0302)#PCI(0000), hängt also an PCIROOT(0)#PCI(0302) und das ist:

Warum auch immer, die Maximum Link Width von x8 nicht ausgenutzt wird, aber dies ist ein Root Controller für die Lanes direkt von der CPU. Kann es sein, dass Du da im UEFI etwas eingestellt hat, was für PCIe Lane Bifurkation da ist? Dies ist nur dafür da um 2 M.2 PCIe SSDs in dem Slots mit so einer Karte zu betreiben. Damit hat dann ein Gerät nur 4 statt 8 Lanes und die nächsten 4 Lanes gehen kan das zweite Gerät, ein x8 Gerät wie Deine Netzwerkkarte ist aber nur ein Gerät und kann dann eben nur die ersten 4 Lanes nutzen.

Wobei, eigentlich geht bei AM4 offiziell nur die Aufteilung in x8/x8 und von einer Unterstützung der ULTRA QUAD M.2 CARD schreibt ASRock nichts, was auch dafür spricht, dass es keine PCIe Lane Bifurcation gibt. Vielleicht liegt auch einfach nur ein Problem mit dem Slot oder der Karte vor und wegen eines Kontaktproblems ist kein x8 Modus möglich. Du könntest ja testweise mal die XL710 mit der Graka vertauschen und dann schauen wie bei beiden die Current Link Width angezeigt (also alles bei Bus aufklappen) aussieht, denn wie Du siehst ist die Information dort zuverlässiger als an anderen Stellen oder bei anderen Tools.
 
Werde das Tauschen von GPU und Netzwerkkarte bei nächster Gelegenheit testen. Zumindest die beiden habe ich schon mehrmals neu eingesteckt (das x16/x4 hatte mich ja auch gewundert), aber noch nicht die Positionen vertauscht.

Im BIOS gibt es nichts bzgl. Bifurcation, nur eine Option für Gen1/Gen2/Gen3/Gen4/Auto für PCIE 1, PCI 3 und das generelle Chipsatz-Interface zur CPU. Habe probeweise von Auto auf Gen3/Gen3/Gen4 gewechselt - hat nichts verändert.

Könnte man das x4 der Netzwerkkarte so interpretieren, dass jeweils einer der XL710-Chips eine x4-Anbindung hat, also x8 insgesamt (=so wie's sich gehört), oder ist das ein Schmarn?
 
Das müsste Schmarn sein, denn wie im letzten Beitrag geschrieben, hat die an PCIROOT(0)#PCI(0302), also dem zweiten X16 Slot und im Zitat im letzten Beitrag zu sehen, ist dessen Current Link Width nur x4. PCIROOT(0)#PCI(0301) ist der erste PCIe x16 Slot, da steckt die Graka drin und einen PCIROOT(0)#PCI(0303) oder PCIROOT(0)#PCI(0304) oder sowas gibt es nicht. Von den 16 Lanes werden also nur 12 genutzt, 8 für die Graka und 4 für die Netzwerkkarte.

Die Graka erscheint übrigens auch mehrfach, entscheidend ist hier der "AMD Vega10 - Switch Upstream in PCIe", der hat x8, könnte X16 und agiert wie ein PCIe Lane Switch für die beiden Funktionen (Video und Audio) der Karte. Die beiden Unterfunktionen sind dann jeweils mit 16 Lanes dort verbunden, vielleicht zeigen andere Tools bzw. HWInfo64 an anderer Stellen deshalb die x16 an.
 
Weitere Informationen:

Vermute, dass es ein BIOS-Bug ist, wie die PCIe-Lanes bei eingebauten Komponenten verteilt werden.

- Ist nur die GPU alleine auf dem X570 Taichi in PCIE 1 verbaut, so wird "AMD Vega10 - Switch Upstream in PCIe" auch mit x16 angezeigt.

- Beim Tausch (GPU in PCIE 3, Netzwerkkarte in PCIE 1) läuft die Netzwerkkarte nun mit x8 und "AMD Vega10 - Switch Upstream in PCIe" in x8 (also wie erwartet. HWiNFO meint hier aber immer noch auf der grafischen Übersichtsseite, dass die GPU mit x16 angeschlossen sei, was ja auch physikalisch gar nicht möglich ist, da PCIE 3 nur mit x8 angebunden ist.

Das dort die tatsächliche Anbindung angezeigt werden soll, ist ja erstmal nur Deine Interpretation, man müsste mal in die Anleitung des Tools schauen ob diese korrekt ist. Vielleicht bedeutet die Anzeige dort ja auch, dass die Graka eben maximal 16 Lanes hat und damit wird dann eben die mögliche statt der tatsächlichen Anbindung dort angezeigt und wäre dann korrekt.
 
Ich gestehe, dass ich nicht die Dokumentation zu HWiNFO studiert habe.

Wenn da bei der GPU-Ansicht aber steht: PCIe v3.0 x16 (8.0 GT/s) @ x16 (8.0 GT/s) (vgl. Screenshot beim älteren Posting), dann wüsste ich auch jetzt nicht, wie ich das anders interpretieren sollte, als dass eine GPU die maximal PCIe 3.0 x16 kann, auch gerade mit PCIe 3.0 x16 läuft...

Stimmt, "PCIe v3.0 x16 (8.0 GT/s) @ x16 (8.0 GT/s)" deutet klar auf einen Fehler hin, denn die erste Angabe bedeutet wohl auf die maximal und die zweiten die tatsächliche Anbindung hin und ist damit falsch. Dafür dürfte die Sache mit dem Uplink verantwortlich sein.
