Neuling
Hello guys,
This opening will be in English because my German is too mediocre to explain everything in German.
+-4 months ago I started my fileserver-project. Next month I will have my 2nd paycheck so I can finally finish my project.
Case's
With some luck I found the Sharkoon Rebel9 series. They are perfect for my project and luckily very cheap so I bought 3

Nothing special, just putting 2 cases together. Both cases will lie on their side and Case_2 on top of Case_1.
- Case_1 has the motherboard
- Case_2 has removed mobo-tray
- Case_1 & Case_2 will be put together with screws when Backplanes are installed.
Possible Problems
- I will connect PowerLED & HarddiskLED from Case_1 & Case_2 together and will mount them on the motherboard. Will the LED's shine less hard?
Hardware already owned
CPU : Intel 805 @ 3.33GHz
Mobo: Asus P5WDG2-WS
RAM: 2*1GB Corsair XMS PC5400
RAID: Areca ARC-1160 PCI-X + BBU
PSU: Fortron 550W + Superflower 470W
Hardware to be purchased
Backplanes: each case has 9*5'25-bays
1*4-in-3 backplane
3*3-in-2 backplanes
So room for 26-disks in total.
In 2 weeks I will buy the backplanes and the project will be finished. Then I need to save money for extra HDD's. I want to fill every bay with 1TB disks over time I really hope staggered spinup works with the Areca and my backplanes....
