Die neue Atom-Generation hat mich für die Idee eines stromsparend(er)en Fileservers sehr interessiert. Die allgemeinen Verfügbarkeiten sind noch mäßig, insbesondere das Wunsch-Board von Gigabyte gibbet nicht zu kaufen.
Also teste ich mal obiges. Ich schreibe hier per Edit alle neuen Erkenntnisse rein. Wer noch Tests laufen haben will, möge sich melden.

Setup: o.g. Board, 2x16GB rECC-2400; eine 200GB-2,5"-HDD für das Testsystem: Ubuntu 16.04.3 mit Kernel 4.10-25, da neuere Versionen nicht mit Infiniband klarkommen. Nach ersten Recherchen ein IB+IPv6-Problem.

Vorgesehen:

3) phoronix-testsuite
4) zfs+encryption->samba->performance
Verschiedene Hardware-Tests, u.a. Qlogic/Intel Infiniband 40G, 4G Fibrechannel by Emulex und Qlogic, Cine DVB-S2 v5.3 dual, u.v.m.
Erstere hat sich bereits gemeldet und verkündet, dass sie mit PCIe 4x nicht zufrieden ist ;)

Mit einem Voltcraft 4000-Messgerät direkt vor dem Netzteil, einem günstigen Xilence500, gemessen.
Power Off, BMC aktiv: 10W

Ein wenig enttäuschend: Aktueller Kernel mit aktuellem cryptsetup ist langsamer als 4.13-Kernel mit 1-Jahr-altem cryptsetup...

Der C3758 ist damit ausschließlich in AES-basierten Verfahren schneller als der Vorgänger C2750, in den anderen ist er sogar langsamer. Da der C2750 200MHz schneller taktet, lässt sich daraus schließen, dass sich in der Prozessorarchitektur diesbezüglich nichts geändert hat.

Da der Switch beim onboard-10G nicht mal ein 10G-Verbindung aufbaut, evtl. doch Probleme mit dem Switch. Direktverbindung t.b.d.

2d) Infinband Intel/Qlogic 7342 40G mit IPoIB-Modul (Linux-only), an Workstation mit gleicher Karte & Direktverbindung.
Die Karte benötigt 8 Lanes, das Board stellt nur vier zur Verfügung. Die große Herausforderung bestand darin, dass seit zumindest Kernel 4.13 das IB_IPOIB-Modul nicht mehr funktioniert (Die devices IB0 und IB1 werden nicht erstellt), daher musste ich auf Ubuntu Server 16.04.3 mit hwe-Kernel 4.10 ausweichen bis das endlich lief.

Vielleicht kannst du die genauen Testparameter (ggf. Version des Proggies) noch dazu schreiben? Also quasi bei Kommandozeilen z.B. den exakten Befehl, den du für den Benchmark aufgerufen hast? Dann könnte man das easy reproduzieren und hätte dann wirklich vergleichbare Daten!

Mich würde zum Beispiel dann mal interessieren, wie ein Lattepanda (Atom Z8350), Up2 (Pentium N4200) oder S1151-i3 im Vergleich abschneidet - die drei hätte ich z.B. „zufällig“ da... :d
 
"cryptsetup benchmark" lautet der Befehl. Leider haben die Linux-Derivate höchst unterschiedliche Versionen des Programms integriert und gerade Ubuntu sticht mit sehr alter Software hervor (1.6.6 bei 17.10, 1.7.3 bei 18.04pre). Aktuell ist 2.0.1.
Es gibt hier meinen damaligen Thread mit etlichen Ergebnissen. Sobald ich die Excel-Tabelle finde, trage ich auch gerne weiterhin ein und aktualisiere den Thread.
Edit: Und ja, meine aktuellere Hardware muss auch wieder getestet werden und in die Tabelle rein ;)

Endlich mal ein paar Infos über den Stromverbrauch. Danke dafür. Kann man den BMC denn deaktivieren?
Ich hab mir für meinen Fileserver heute mal ein Supermicro A2SDi-2c-HLN4F gegönnt. Bin gespannt.
 
Ich habe gestern an einem i3-7100 Messungen durchgeführt, Supermicro X10SSA-F Mainboard mit IPMI. Das Board braucht (anderes Netzteil...) etwa 5W off/IPMI-on.
Mal schauen, wann ich Zeit für einen Netzteiltausch habe, dann messe ich gerne nochmal nach.
 
Mein A2SDi-H-TF braucht auch gute 11W im Power OFF/BMC aktiv. Liegt wohl daran, daß die 10GBE NIC aktiv bleibt. Der kleine Kühlkörper wird dabei richtig heiß.

Das Board verfügt über zwei getrennte SATA-Controller, die jeweils in einer eigenen IOMMU landen. Ich habe z.B. den SATA-0 Controller (Die acht Ports an den zwei SFF-8643 Steckverbindern) und eine X553 VF an eine OMV-VM durchgereicht:
