I removed the modular part of the stock heat-sink and installed a Noctua U6 chipset heat-sink with M3 x 10mm screws. Some photographs:

I'm running at 4.2 GHz (21 x 200), so far very fast and very stable. This is on air cooling (Prolimatech Megahalems).

I'm running at 4.0 GHz, easily on this board. Something that might help you is using odd multiplier's, for example 21 x 190. For some reason this allows the use of lower voltages therefore reducing the heat on the NB and CPU.

I understand about the U6 being too tall. Answers to your questions: 1) I don't know, but I suppose if you removed your graphics card in the first PCI slot then it would fit fine. As much as I like the C12P and it makes sense to blow air on the motherboard, its cooling performance isn't as good...
