The original cord is not even a problem. The cord is the last thing that needs to be changed right now. The problem with the mouse - at least the one I bought - is that it has lots of post-travel on the buttons. And when the buttons rebound from that massive post-travel, it causes them to bang up against the top of the frame of the mouse with a loud 'THUNK". Folding over a small piece of paper towel twice so it's 4x the original thickness and wedging it under the front of both buttons fixes the post-travel issue and the loud 'thunk' sound, but then you add a bit more pressure required to actuate them making the buttons kind of an annoyance to use.
The buttons even after fixing that issue are still kind of loud as well. Mice like the G302 and G402 have very quiet buttons, which I like, then the G403 has louder, higher pitch buttons which are kinda annoying but tolerable. The XM1 seems to have even slightly higher pitch and louder buttons than the G403, getting into the annoying zone. The XM1 buttons probably need to be re-worked entirely. As for the sensor itself, it's 'decent', but every 3389 from the Sensei Ten to this mouse I've used has been worse than the 3366 to me.
I can't notice any phase transition from low framerate to high framerate on a 3366, but I can notice it on the XM1 with 1.88 beta firmware. It makes it feel like you have non-linear movement and a sort of acceleration and deceleration effect, while the 3366 feels much more similar to a traditional A3090. The shape and weight of the XM1 are pretty good, though. How could someone get me to use this mouse again?
1. Switch to the 3360 sensor instead because 3389 seems inferior to 3366 in every mouse I've tried
2. Use the EXACT internal components and EXACT firmware settings that Steelseries used in the Sensei 310 because that's the most responsive, best implementation of the 3360 I've seen
3. Fix the buttons
4. Move the scroll wheel WAY THE HELL back because it might as well not even exist where it's currently located
5. You now have potentially the best, least flawed mouse on the market
I would just use a Sensei 310 instead, but they made the shape too wide in the back that makes it difficult to even use and also with some slippery rubber. It's like using a wide, slippery bar of soap in practice. 3d printing a new, Kana-shaped shell for the Sensei 310 would be another option.
