Wie Sparrow soeben bekanntgegeben hat, wurde der Anbieter des gleichnamigen alternativen E-Mail-Clients von Google gekauft. Sparrow war zunächst ein E-Mail-Client ausschließlich für Google-Mail, erschien dann auch als iOS-Version für das iPhone. Erst vor kurzem wurde der Funktionsumfang auf beliebige IMAP-Konten erweitert. Wie Dom Leca, CEO von Sparrow, nun bekanntgibt, wird es weiterhin einen Support und kritische Updates geben, allerdings keinerlei neuen Features. Ob es den für Anfang des Jahres angekündigten Push-Mail-Support für die iOS-App noch geben wird, ist nicht bekannt. Das Team von Sparrow wird in ein Google-Team eingegliedert und wird dort vermutlich weiterhin an E-Mail-Clients arbeiten.
