Research in Motion (RIM) hat heute das PlayBook und Blackberry Tablet OS vorgestellt. RIM bewirbt das PlayBook mit kompromisslosem Web-Browsing, echtem Mutlitasking, High-Performance-Multimedia, aber auch effektiven Security-Features und out-of-the-box Enterprise-Support. Zusätzliche soll Unternehmen und Entwicklern aber auch eine herausragende Entwickler-Plattform geboten werden. “RIM set out to engineer the best professional-grade tablet in the industry with cutting-edge hardware features and one of the world's most robust and flexible operating systems,” sagt Mike Lazaridis, Präsident und Co-CEO von Research In Motion. “The BlackBerry PlayBook solidly hits the mark with industry leading power, true multitasking, uncompromised web browsing and high performance multimedia.”

Das Blackberry PlayBook soll im Frühjahr 2011 in den USA erhältlich sein. Im Laufe des zweiten Quartals soll dann auch ein internationaler Start erfolgen. Über Preise ist bisher noch nichts bekannt. Das SDK zum Blackberry Tablet OS soll in den kommenden Wochen erscheinen.
