AMD hat am heutigen Tag das erste Modell einer neuen GPU-Generation vorgestellt. Die AMD Radeon HD 7970 zeichnet sich durch 2048 Shader-Prozessoren, 3072 MB Grafikspeicher und den Support von PCI-Express 3.0 und DirectX 11.1 aus. Die GPU arbeitet mit 925 MHz - der GDDR5-Speicher kommt auf 1375 MHz. AMD will bei deutlich erhöhter Peformance die Leistungsaufnahme erheblich reduziert haben.
"True to the adage, "never settle," AMD is once again aggressively advancing the state of the graphics industry – this time with the arrival of the world's fastest single GPU graphics card, the AMD Radeon HD 7970," sagte Matt Skynner, Vizepräsident der GPU Division bei AMD. "This graphics card represents a revolution in the graphics industry. To put it bluntly, at 28 nm the AMD RadeonTM HD 7970 changes everything!"
