Apple hat vor wenigen Tagen ein wahres Produktfeuerwerk gelaunched und dabei sämtliche Produktivitäts-Software und sogar das neue Betriebssystem unter bestimmten Umständen kostenlos bereitgestellt. Das freut natürlich Anwender, die bislang den Kauf einer neuen Version gescheut haben. Auch das Office-Paket iWork mit den Programmen Pages (Word-), Numbers (Excel-) und Keynote (Powerpoint-Pendant) wird Käufern einer älteren Version bzw. Käufern eines neuen Computers von Apple kostenlos bereit gestellt.
Neu = Besser? In diesem Fall wohlkaum, hat Apple doch - wie schon vor einiger Zeit mit Final Cut Pro X - Funktionen aus dem neuen Paket entfernt. So ist die Optik und Bedienbarkeit zwar verbessert worden, dies ging aber zu Lasten der Funktionsvielfalt. In Apples Diskussionsforen werden mittlerweile Listen mit den fehlenden Features zusammengestellt (für Pages, Numbers, Keynote), ob dies den Konzern aus Cupertino zum Umdenken bringt, ist ungewiss. Nutzer einer älteren Version der Bürosoftware können diese anscheinend über einen entsprechenden Unterordner im Programmverzeichnis finden. Die (aktuell) kompletten Änderungen innerhalb der Apps lauten wie folgt:
Pages 2013
- Selecting non-contiguous text gone
- Outline view appears gone
- Customizable Toolbar is gone
- Many templates appear gone
- Captured pages gone
- Reorganize pages by dragging gone
- Duplicate pages gone
- Subscript/superscript buttons gone
- Select all instances of a Style is gone
- Retain zoom level of document gone
- Facing pages gone
- Endnotes gone
- Media Inspector can't find iPhoto library on external drive
- Update is missing for older installations, Apple is reportedly working on a solution via a redeemable code or update on the ir Support Download site

Numbers 2013
- Reorganize Panel gone, no multi-level sort.
- Categories View gone
- References now don’t follow sorted rows as they did before. This loss a PLUS.
- Table Fills are not supported
- German user can’t use decimal points from numeric keypad.
- Split Cells is gone
- Sheet View seems to be the only view available during editing. Page view only available in the Print dialog.
- Page Headers and Footers are gone
- Edit Toolbar (add, delete, rearrange tool icons) is gone.
- Dates don’t display properly when used as X-Axis values - hope this is just a bug
- Custom Formats gone
- Ability to set page margins gone
- Cell border custom line weight is sometimes lost when using Filter Rows
- Ability to sort selected rows is gone
- Can’t set Page Margins; they default to about 1” all around
- Formula Bar is gone, replaced by a field at the bottom of the Numbers window in which the expression is displayed but can not be edited
- Graphics Inspector no longer treats a Table as an Object that can be formatted by the Graphics Inspector tools. Or, looking at it from the Table perspective, there is no way to add Shadow effect to a Table’s outline.
- Comments only display as Tool Tips now, can’t be static displays
- Can’t open Numbers 08 documents
- Option to set the behavior of the Return key while editing a cell is gone
- Insert > Date and Time is gone

Keynote 2013
- Aperture photos no longer appear in Media Library
- Format bar is gone
- Perspective animation is missing
- Links to Numbers file no longer work
- Presenter Display options are missing
- Quicktime export no longer skips skipped slides or allows manual advance
- Links to other slideshows no longer work
- Antialiasing of raster images appears worse than before
- Object push slide animations break chart builds on the 2nd slide
- Can no longer link to other slide decks
- Master objects no longer appear in front of slide objects
- Smart builds also not working
- Cannot apply different themes to different slides within presentation
- Changing theme changes all slides and reverts them to 4:3 eventhogh I've created presentation in 16:9
- Tool bar cannot be customised
- Ability to change the sizes of any of the items in presenter view is gone
