Wie in jedem Jahr werden im Rahmen der Vorstellungen auf der Computerspielemesse E3 auch Spiele prämiert. Die Game Critics Awards bestehen traditionell aus 17 Kategorien für die die auf der Messe vorgestellten Spiele nominiert werden können. In diesem Jahr wurden wieder sehr viele spannende Spiele vorgestellt, unter anderem von Nintendo.
Der ikonische italienische Klempner dürfte hierbei als großer Gewinner aus den Awards hervorgehen. Mit fünf Awards in zwei Spielen zeigt sich, wie beliebt die Figur nach all den Jahren noch immer ist. In der Kategorie „Best of Show“ waren neben dem Gewinner " Super Mario Odyssey" noch "Assassin’s Creed: Origins", Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, "Middle-Earth Shadow of War" und "Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus" nominiert.
Die Kategorie „Best Original Game“ konnte der französische Publisher Ubisoft mit "Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle" mit nach Hause nehmen. Im Folgenden sind alle nominierten Games und die Sieger (fett markiert) aufgelistet:
