CPU ja..., aber das Brett? Die Firmware ist da noch gut eingeschränkt. oder ich bekomme das nicht eingestellt.. es gibt ja da ne Menge im Bereich Speicher.

ich bin froh, das ich die Kiste gestern auf die Schnelle zusammenbekommen habe.. ZFS noch implementiert und gut ist.. Dann das Backup der VMs wieder drauf
 
Ist ECC jetzt aktiv, oder nicht? Nur weil die Kiste mit dem RAM bootet, heißt das noch lange nicht, dass es auch ECC nutzt. Kannst du das mal checken?
AUch finde ich die 70W jetzt nciht so wirklich prickelnd. Da hat mein Bulldozer mit 48W im Idle und 6 2.5" HDDs ja weniger Stromverbrauch.
Kannst du mal Proxmox testen und mal Powertop ausführen?
 
woran siehe ich das, das ECC aktiv ist? Im UEFI ist da nix zu sehen

64 Bit heist das du kein ECC hast. ECC ist immer 72 Bit. Teste doch mal mit mentest86+ gegen, wenn da bei ECC no oder non steht, dann hast keinen.

So wie bei deinem Xeon System wurde es bei meinen auch ausgegeben. Also mit Error Correction Type und Total Width. :)
Bei ihm steht davon ja garnichts, daher dachte ich es funzt nicht, ich würde es trotzdem nochmal überprüfen. Sicher ist sicher.

b99: mal geschaut ob du mit lmsensor an brauchbare Daten aus dem Monitoring Chip kommst, Fan Speed/Board Temp etc, das was man halt sonst auch via IPMI sieht? Bzw ich wuerde passmark Memtest laufen lassen um sicher zu stellen das alles iO ist.

So, hier nun von mir auch mal ein paar neue Infos. Auch unter VMWare (ESXi 6.7 U2) wird der Speicher mit ECC Fehlerkorrektur betrieben. Der Server läuft jetzt seit einer Woche ohne einen einzigen Fehler oder eine Auffälligkeit. Ein HBA (SAS2008) ist in eine FreeNAS-VM mit 16GB RAM durchgereicht und läuft sehr performant (SMART-Werte und Temps werden angezeigt). Eine zweite PCI-Express-Karte (USB 3.0-Adapter) ist in eine Windows Server-VM (Veeam-Backup mit externen USB-Disks für Offsite-Backup) durchgereicht und läuft fehlerfrei. Das durchreichen der onboard USB3.0-Controller funktioniert trotz "ACS"-Setting leider nicht (VM lässt sich nicht einschalten).

Der Samsung-RAM (16GB-Module DDR4 ECC 2666er, siehe folgendes Dump) passt von seiner Bauhöhe übrigens einwandfrei unter den Original AMD CPU-Kühler des Ryzen 7 3700X (der mit den lustigen LEDs).

Die CPU-Leistung ist einfach beeindruckend. Zum Vergleich: die Videoüberwachungs-VM (4x FullHD-Videostreams inkl. Erkennungsalgorithmen) benötigte unter der identischen Virtualisierung im vorherigen Server (Intel XEON SandyBridge-EP Dual E5-2650 V1) knapp 10GHz in Summe und jetzt mit dem Ryzen 7 3700X noch exakt 8,2GHz bei identischen "Workload". Das zeigt die ordentliche IPC-Leistung der Ryzen 3000-Architektur.

Du müsstest mal schauen welche Devices mit in der IOMMU Gruppe des onboard USB Controller drin stecken - wenn du die dann Alle an die VM durchreichst, sollte es klappen. Wie man die IOMMU Gruppen unter esx listet weiß ich nicht, würd an deiner Stelle dazu kurz ein live Linux mit der kernel arg
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet amd_iommu=on"
booten und dann mit
find /sys/kernel/iommu_groups/ -type l
und
nachschauen was da sonst noch mit drin steckt.

Danke für den Hinweis. Da der Server bereits im Haus (privat eingesetzt) für mehrere Parteien produktiv ist (Firewall,DC,Fileserver,SAT-IP,etc...), muss ich für weitere Tests mal ein Zeitfenster beantragen :)

Um einen wertvollen PCIe-Slot (z.B. zukünftig für eine GPU) zu sparen, werde ich den Passthrough des USB3.0-Controllers an der ATX-Rückblende (NICHT Onboard-Port) zusammen mit dem Audio-Device und dem weiteren Device nochmal bei Zeiten testen.
