Einige 9800X3D funktionieren nicht mit neueren AGESA Microcode

so what i´ve understood ; Your suspicious broken 9800 X3d works fine on an asus board , even with AGESA to ComboAM5 PI 1.2.0.3a Asus Bios.
If that is the case Asrock should better delete their Beta Bios from their webside ........... immediately...........
Seems to be the case, yes. I haven't been there to test myself, but I trust it was tested correctly, especially that the technician mentioned to me that he also updated the chipset drivers in Windows afterwards.
I will inform ASrock on this. Still, doesn't explain why for some folks with 9800X3D, it works, while for others, it doesn't with AGESA to ComboAM5 PI 1.2.0.3a.

yes, and idk if there do exist , let´s say, 2 different batches of 9800X3D out there - i did´nt really expect that, but can also be a reason - why ....

Yes, could be the case. I'll keep you updated.

Work on this has been going on in Taiwan for a long time.

Addendum:
My problem CPUs have been shipped to Taiwan and AMD is on board!
Oh, so that's why ASrock support mentioned they are waiting for a CPU to reproduce the problem. Nice! Thanks a lot for sending it in!

Mfg.

Hi everyone, a quick update on my case. The new CPU is here. I installed it yesterday and it works straight away with 3.16, I'd rather not use the beta ;). The problem really is with the CPU and not the motherboard.
Good luck and success to all of you

Mfg.
Happy to hear! Lucky you! The vendor I bought my 9800X3D refused replacing it as it works on the tested boards. They even claimed it works on another Asus board which has the same AGESA version as X870E Taichi Lite from ASrock. They sent it back and I had to revert to 3.12.AS02 until I get to hear more from ASrock on this case. Very interesting is the fact that it works perfectly fine on 3.12.AS02, no blue screen, games run perfectly, even PBO2 works fine with +200MHz, -15 on the curve optimizer.

Thanks for sharing this. Kinda what I expected tbh, a BIOS physically killing a CPU is not really a thing unless there is severe overvoltage for some reason, but that never seemed to be the case here since the CPUs continued to work with old BIOS version.

You're welcome! Yeah, thought about it as well, but still cannot understand what caused my 9800X3D to not be able to run 3.16, for example, again, after trying 3.18.AS01. 3.16 ran fine before. Unless, there's something else that got updated apart from the BIOS chip. I have no clue, honestly. But really glad 3.18.MEM03 looks to be good. I'll post an update as soon as I get an answer from ASrock regarding this BIOS version and if I can share it.

ASRock responded and they said I shouldn't yet share this BIOS file as it's a "special" BIOS for me. Don't know how it's actually "special", since they haven't seen my sample of 9800X3D. It's probably similar to what @J Z sent to them. When asking them about what changed in 3.18.MEM03, they mentioned it's related to CPU voltage. So, my guess would be the voltage used for the CPU was lower on 3.18.AS01 and they raised it a bit on 3.18.MEM03, hence why it's booting. I've asked them again to clarify. They also mentioned a stable version will not be released for now, as more verifications are needed. Still don't understand why I cannot downgrade to a functioning 3.16 version. Still, enjoying the fact that I can still use a newer BIOS version now.

Because it is not due to the beta version and other betas;)

We are also working with AMD to find a solution that will also take these CPU variants into account in the AGESA code.
Is there some sort of unofficial binning? What's the difference in these "variants" of the CPU?

Was soll das sonst?

It wasn't just the 3.18 beta, but the ones before it as well.
Because people asked why 3.18 was not removed, precisely because it affected other versions, I wrote it;)
So, I presume anything that was past 3.12.AS02, since that's what worked before the 3.18.MEM03 BIOS that ASRock provided me. I guess they reverted the change introduce in 3.15 on my X870E Taichi Lite. Still, doesn't explain why before flashing 3.18.AS02, all versions before it worked just fine on my CPU and now, they don't. Apart from <=3.12.AS02 and now 3.18.MEM03, nothing else works. Even if previously, it worked.

Seems like ASRock finally pulled 3.18.AS01 for X870E Taichi Lite: https://download.asrock.com/BIOS/AM5/X870E Taichi Lite(3.18.AS01)ROM.zip
And now they added 3.18.AS02: https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X870E Taichi Lite/index.asp#BIOS

Looks like 3.18.AS02 causes the same debug code 00 as 3.18.AS01, so it's not including the fix ASRock provided me with 3.18.MEM03. Tested with my own 9800X3D and X870E Taichi Lite. So, stay away from this release as well if you've had issues with 3.18.AS01.

Also, ASRock described the fact that 3.18.MEM03 increases the CPU SoC voltage to 1.2V for stability, hence why some units are affected by a low voltage not enough for the CPU to operate, hence the 00 debug code.

The patch for the problem CPUs is not yet final and will probably take a few more days.

Will put some betas 3.18.MEM03 online today, as a transition phase:)
Yeah, I also have 3.18.MEM03 running on my system, but I have not shared it as ASRock mentioned I shouldn't yet.

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-B650-TOMAHAWK-WIFI/support

Vielleicht hilft das jemandem.

  • Danke
