[Sammelthread] Supertalent SSD Raiddrive GS / WS / ES

Hallo!

Zu den heute neu angekündigten Raiddrive von Supertalent kann man hier reinposten.

Aus der Pressemitteilung:
San Jose, California – April 1, 2009 – Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of Flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, today announced its patented RAIDDrive™, which dramatically increases the performance and slot capacity of PCI Express-based storage solution. The new RAIDDrive is the market’s largest and most innovative server-based solid-state storage solution, and an extension of its patented technology from the RAIDSSD™ product lines.
RAIDDrives support up to 2 TB of MLC or SLC Nand Flash memories, have a turbocharged DRAM Cache, and the RAIDDrive ES is fully battery backed to protect data in the event of power loss. The RAIDDrives connect through a PCIe Gen. 2.0 x8 interface and are capable of delivering sequential Read speeds of up to 1.2GB/s, sequential Write speeds of up to 1.3GB/s. More performance details will be unveiled in June. As an optional feature users will be able to configure the drives with an internal RAID5 capability to deliver an extra level of data protection for mission critical applications.

SuperTalent is releasing three families of RAIDDrives with features optimized for different market segments:

· RAIDDrive ES - Enterprise Servers performing compute intensive applications such as database transaction processing, business intelligence, and virtualization.

· RAIDDrive WS - Workstation users performing tasks including animation, video editing, oil and gas exploration, CAD/EDA simulation, and scientific computing,

· RAIDDrive GS - Gamers looking to supercharge their IO Subsystem

Klingt alles ja ganz nett - aber ohne Preise (zumindest das Gamersystem sollte um die 2€/GB liegen um akzeptiert zu werden) und Controllertyp (internal RAID-5?) wage ich noch gar keine Aussage zu dem Ding.

2€ wär ja schon fast billiger als UltraDrive - das wär dann schon etwas übertrieben "billig"...

Kommt natürlich auch stark auf die Geschwindigkeit der Gameredition draufan.

Wenn das rauskommt (und kein Aprilscherz ist wie im OCZ Forum ), dann wird die UD/Vertex wohl schon etwas günstiger sein. Viel fehlt ja nicht mehr zu 2 EUR/GB.

Also quasi Komplettsysteme mit PCIe-SSD für Profianwender? Dann hoffen wir mal dass das Einzelprodukt auch nicht mehr lange auf sich warten lässt...

Vermutlich eher Systeme mit RAIDcontroller + mehreren SSDs vorkonfiguriert. Einzelprodukt siehe OCZ Z-Drive oder einen stinknormalen Controller + SSDs.

In 2-3 Wochen werden die ersten Samples verfügbar sein
Das Ding wird richtig gut von dem was ich bisher gesehen habe.

The PCIe card allows users to experience performance beyond the 3 Gb/s limitation of the current SATA spec. Despite 6 Gb/s SATA coming soon, the PCIe interconnect still provides superior bandwidth.

The current generation of Super Talent's RAIDdrive GS actually uses four Indilinx SSD controllers on one card and supports up to 2 TB of in a MLC configuration or 1 TB in a SLC configuration. Keep in mind that you get more capacity with MLC drives but you take a performance hit. SLC SSD drives also cost a lot more to produce.

Current sequential read and write performance on the RAIDdrive GS? 1.5 GB/sec. and 1.3 GB/sec. respectively--that's gigabytes per second.

Super Talent indicated to us that its future RAIDdrive will support eight Indilinx SSD controllers for even more RAID and throughput performance. Stacking multiple controllers together also allows Super Talent to deliver RAIDdrive GS' with higher capacities.

We were told that the eight-controller version of the RAIDdrive will cost less than $1,000 when it ships.

Kannst du rausfinden wie die "Specifications" lauten ?

Der Vogel im Youtube Video spricht von 4x512GB. Wie soll das gehen mit nem Indilinx Controller? 8x256MB klingt plausibler.

Das gehype um diese "PCIe-SSDs" kann ich allerdings nicht verstehen.
Kann mir auch so nen stinknormalen SATA-Controller + SSDs meiner Wahl kaufen.

nene, da sidn ein paar sachen anders, es gibt durchaus möglichkeiten ne pci-e ssd deutlich fixer als ne sata-ssd zu machen,

Ich darf aktuell leider nicht mehr sagen, aber das wird ein tolles Produkt.
In Kürze kann ich mehr sagen. Die Datenraten habt ihr ja gesehen, dei find ich Hammer.

Das schöne an so ner PCIe Lösung ist halt dass du alles in einer Karte hast und nicht noch 8 oder 4 SSD/HDD irgendwo unterbringen musst. Dazu ist es eine komplett abgestimmte und optimierte Lösung.
Es gibt ein RAIDfeature mit Indilinx Controllern.
Photofast macht das zB auch in der V5 Serie.

@Aristo: Preise hab ich noch 0,0 Informationen.

Allerdings muss man darauf achten, ein Mainboard mit mehr als einem PCIe 16x Slot zu kaufen, selbst wenn man kein CF/SLI haben will... denn sonst schaut man ein wenig traurig aus mit dem teuren RAIDDrive in der Hand und keinem Platz dafür

Das traue ich noch jedem User zu. Worauf er eher achten sollte ist, mit wievielen Lanes die PCIe Slots jeweils laufen. Denn da gibt es gravierende Unterschiede. Bei 2x PCIe 16x rev 2.0 würde ich mich soweit herauslehnen und behaupten, dass so ziemlich jedes Board mindestens 2x PCIe 8x rev 2.0 hinbekommt (Bei Bestückung beider Steckplätze). Alles andere muss man aus den Herstellerangaben herausziehen (und die sind da teilweise sehr, sehr unverständlich ausgedrückt).

/Edit: bensen hats schon gesagt. Ich verstehe auch nicht wie die diese Performance mit 4 SSDs hinbekommen. Zudem vermute ich mal, dass da auch mit massig Cache verschönt wird. @last, die over-time Performance wurde mich auch mal brennend interessieren. Alles andere ist doch nur was für die Größe des Samenspenders.

Nun, cool finde ich das Teil trotzdem und vorallem zeigt es, wie im Video erwähnt, wo der Trend hingeht.

Das sind SATA-SSDs, nur eben an einem externen SATA-Controller. Und natürlich ist der bootbar. Ist doch (auch so gut wie) jeder handelsübliche SATA-Controller.

bensen, das gilt leide rnicht für alle pci-e ssds
das es bootbare gibt verwundert mich natürlich wenig, aber das es damit probleme geben kann hab ich ebend auch schon gehört/gelesen

Wer sagt, dass da 4 stinknormale SATA-SSDs drin sind?

Da wird rein gar nichts mehr über SATA laufen, da werden spezielle Management-Chips eingesetzt, die die Daten direkt an ne PCIe-Bridge abgeben und das wars. RAID-Funktionalität wird dann im RAID-Chipsatz einfach umgeschaltet ... frage wäre halt: wie schnell sind die Teile noch im Raid 5?

Ich selbst begrüße solche Laufwerke total, nur ich finde den Trend sehr abwegig. Solche Laufwerke sollen in 32-128 GB Größe rauskommen, dann sind die noch bezahlbar und auch als Systemlaufwerk nutzbar. Aber was soll der Markt mit unbezahlbaren 2 TB?

Schön wären PCIe 2.0 1x oder 4x Karten, die dann 500 MB/s bzw. 2000 MB/s schaufeln könnten.

@ SSDFix: wann läuft denn nu das NDA aus? Zumindest soviel kannst du uns doch sagen, oder?

Ok... zweite Septemberhälfte wird vorgemerkt

Morgen oder Mittwoch soll nun die offizielle PM rausgehen.
Das Teil wird mit nem Intel Raidcontroller sein, 512MB Cache und richtig schön Dampf machen. Mehr Details in der Pressemitteilung. Dank Backupbatterie wird auch im Fall eines Stromausfalls gewährleistet sein, dass daten aus dem DRAM Cache noch abgespeichert werden.

Preise usw sollte Mittwoch / Donnerstag auch verfügbar sein.
Ich hoffe dass wir auch bald noch nen Sample bekommen, den kann ich dann mal etwas testen, werde dann Ergebnisse hier posten.

Da der Controller direkt von Intel kommt, gibt es da Chancen dass der evtl. mit TRIM was anfangen kann? Zumindest in der Zukunft? In der Regel siehts da ja bei RAID eher duster aus.
