Interessant das die Sandy-Bridge-Xeons so gut performen in AIDA. Die Ivy-Bridge-Xeons im Dell T5610 haben bei mir Anfang 2023 bei gleicher Taktung schlechtere Werte gebracht.

One tip for all who have a post issue on Rampage III Extreme.

I could not make a full post. Turns out my Realtek audio chip was defective and preventing the motherboard to make a full post. I could see all post details but it refused to go to BIOS or boot to Windows.

I tried flashing a BIOS with all devices off (which might help with defective SATA). This did not help.
De-soldering the Realtek audio chip did help. All back to normal.
I did not take the effort to de-solder it super nice, so some pins are gone. Not going to replace it anyway.

Did you actually have to fully remove it? From memory I thought you only have to cut off a couple of pins.

Well that could work as well. At least I expect it to work. But since it was more work to look for which pins I needed to remove, I removed the chip completely. I removed it completely in 5 minutes.

up to 210 bclk keeps the multi at x23, after 210 it drops to x22, 215 x21, 220 x20, 225 x19

Are you using the onboard buttons on X58A-OC? I had the same thing happen, but it was just a display error. This said x19, but the actual clock was x21

It depends on how often you up your BCLK compared to your boot clock, not just a BCLK value in itself.



Here it changed to displaying x20 because I booted a lot higher, still x21 real multi:

Very understandable then.

Cutting the pins might be an option for others, who also don't care about the onboard audio and don't have the tools/skills to remove the codec in 5. If it ever comes up again, I might still have the info-graphic of which pins to cut somewhere.

I have these for I while now. I know they run 2GHz C6-6-6 (<2.00v) as well. All my other dimms could not run it. So I started with these. Not expecting others to keep up.
Yes I bought them for €50 some years ago. After much doubt I boubt them. Was a succes so far.

I would be inrested in the schematics if quickly found. Who knows if I ever have the same on another board.

Sadly it wouldn't be all that quick and require a deep dive into my archives. I'll try to remember it.

It depends on how often you up your BCLK compared to your boot clock, not just a BCLK value in itself.

That's exactly how, higher PCIe clock to drastically increase max BCLK I also ran this with a PCI GPU, but that was probably not necessary. Those scores I posted were on dry ice though, I'm not sure how much BCLK this CPU likes on ambient.

At home, I have x2 single Stage, x2 Cascade double Stage, and a Cascade three Stage

I don't have time to be able to do sessions in the cold 😞

I think I remeber a user (Patricklouds iirc) who built a 4 stage cascade and was able to liquify N2 in small quantities with it.
Wouldn't be surprised if a 3 stage could go down to like -150°C then.

Having a Single Stage again would already be a great benefit not to mention anything with more than one stage ...

Nice temps. I had a purple Cascade which could run -90C to -110C. I sold that unit.
I still have a Single Stage, -60C and 25900 btu. FX (s940) ran within a -57 to -59C range or so.
All colder then -60C I do with LN2 these days.

The temperatures always depend on the watts that have to be dissipated

The Single Stage works very well with the FX 939/940, because it has a very aggressive coolbug, my Sandiego fx57 is at -86*, it reaches 4ghz with x17
Most Sandiego processors have coolbug at -5*

Hmmm bei mir sind die 2x 1155 noch voll im Tageseinsatz als Sever - uind 1x 1151 der ist ja aber schon recht modern mit DDR4 - das sind für mich tatsächlich kein "altes" Blech sondern einfach zuverlässige und auch vergleichsweiose sparsame CPU Gen - es gibt recht problemlos ECC Ram und glaub selbst die V2 Xeons haben schon PCIE-3.0 (oder 2.0) ?

inzige was mit bei den 1155 Boards fehlt ist USB 3.0 aber das liegt halt an den "Workstation" bzw "arme Leute Server-Boards" bei Constumer 1155 gab es das schon, hab auch noch einen 1155 als Desktop Variante der steht aber aktuell im Regal.

Inzwischen hat auch der "obere" ein Platinum (oder Titanium?) Seasonic (vor allem wegen der Einschaltstrombegrenzung) und beim Umrüsten auf Kryosheet statt Paste auch einen neuen Lüfter bekommen, 1155 kompatible Lüfter gibt es ja problemlos neu.

Ich habe zumindest nicht vor die 1155 oder 1151 zu ersetzen, finde im Serverbereich oder allgemein "non gaming" als "normal Use" war das so spätestens die CPU Generation die eigentlich schon so gut ist dass man auch heute noch nur aus Langweile oderSpass am Basteln upgraded. Bei Gaming und "Spezialanwendungen" klar da lohnen sich neue CPUs auf jeden Fall.

Hehe das zweite ist mein 1155 XeonV2 (1270V2) als naja so halb Retro mit GTX 1650 Super, einem Sharkoon Netzteil mit Lüsterklemmen , 32 Gb RAM und glaub 2 TB SSD.

Board mit EIDE, SATA und USB 3.0 und auch optischem Audio Ausgang richtig hochwertigen Kondensatoren glaub - echt verrückt was es da alles gab. Ist halt wie ein Mercedes W123 Den hatte ich mal meienr Schwester vor ein paar Jahren geschenkt und der war bis Februar 2024 bei ihr im Einsatz - bis sie jetzt meinen alten 5900x mit RTX 2060 (12 GB) bekommen hat.

Powered by dual PSUs, a combo of SF750+SF600, linked together with a hopefully not sketchy Add2PSU. Power cables to board, slots, cards etc carefully split between the two PSUs to hopefully not overload either.


The case officially only fits up to ATX, but has just enough actual space inside the frame for HPTX. To mount the SFX PSUs and some top fans, I've had custom top and bottom mounting plates laser cut and powdercoated to squeeze around the original frame and mounting points. Also a small stabilizer plate underneath the PCI frame to prevent some sag/wobble and allow mounting a 2.5" drive.

Alles in einem TT Core G3, schön kompaktes ATX. Auch das modifiziert, nämlich das Plexifenster gegen Streckmetall "Mesh" ersetzt (davor hat die GPU gekocht...).


Hardware ist ein Asus Z8NA-D6 mit 2x X5675 und 48GB Ballistix Tactical LP. Darauf zwei Noctua NH-D9L. Versorgt von einem SF450.


Aktuell steckt dazu eine RX 560 mit Alpenföhn Klara drin. Da überlege ich, welche nette GPU stattdessen passen könnte, ohne die vermutlich übrigen ~150-200W Netzteilleistung zu überschreiten. Vielleicht aus Spaß mal irgendwas aus der Workstation Sparte...
