Yes, the good ones can boot or even bench at a very low NB voltage. Maybe it is not depending on the MB version at all. Results do vary a lot. On HWLUXX Poweraderrainer claimed that the orange ones with the metal lever/black slots and imprint on the cpu mosfets is the best version with almost all of them beeing able to OC to 250-MHz+ on stock bios.

USB stuff will also fail later on the better ones. Could 3D bench mine at 265-MHz with only 1.7V and my mouse worked up to 268-MHz. Higher VDD is needed to stabilize it in 3D benches.
Something interesting I found relating to the overheating SB problem:
"Finger test disaprove this point : I put 2.5V to Vdd, there is not more heat on SB than at 1.7V
tests :
1.7V / 240Mhz 2-2-2-11 : SB heats a lot
2.5V / 220Mhz 2-2-2-11 : SB does not heat (like normal FSB at voltage 1.7V) "

So it seems like a high FSB at even low NB voltage will cause excessive heating to the SB and might could even kill it (idiot me forgot to cool the damn thing properly because it was getting only lukewarm with BH-5 then at 1.5V NB...) Don't know if things are getting even worse when using 2x512MB instead of 2x256MB. Anyway, it is too late.
Die Version, die man haben wollte war auch die älteste und ist zu erkennen an:
- Schwarzen Ramslots
- volle Mosfetbestückung, Mosfets an der CPU Spannungsversorgung haben Aufdruck
- PCB eher orange, nicht sehr rötlich
- Alter NB Kühler
- Metallhebel am Sockel
Hier waren oft 250MHz FSB drin, sogar ohne MODs etc. - OC-Krüppel gibts nicht
