What m.2 disk should I buy?

Hi guys.
I want to buy an m.2 drive for my pc and I'm a bit lost.
I have an asus maximus xii apex (Z490) which doesn't have PCI EXPRESS 4.0. My cpu is an i9 10900K

The 3 options are:


1) 7400MB/s

Option 1 (7400MB/s) won't work at that speed on my platform because it doesn't have pci express 4.0?

Will option 2 (5000MB/s) work at 5000MB/s speed on my platform?

So if I buy any of the 3, will they all work at the same maximum speed?

So which one should I buy?

Will I find speed improvement compared to my current ssd: SAMSUNG evo 850 and evo 840?

My idea is to use it with ROG DIMM.2.

anything above that is waste of cash plus you can't even use it because of pcie3.0 plus sequential reads are irrelevant anyways.

You might find that the system and games load about a second faster here and there, but it won't be the big leap the numbers suggest.

As mentioned, PCI-E 4.0 is just a waste of money, but since PCI-E NVMe drives are completely compatible you can use either one. So when you'll buy a new system with PCI 4.0 slots, you'll still be able to use the 3.0 drive for that.
PCI-E 4.0 is only useful in professional environments with large data sets.

I honestly don't understand how to go from 1 to 5 times the speed, there is almost no improvement. I know it is so. Maybe it's because of a bottleneck.
What do you think of the ADATA 1TB XPG Gammix S70 Blade drive?
Between gen 3 and gen 4 units there is not much difference in price
 
Because it's about latency, not raw speed. Decent 3.0 drives (and Sata SSDs) already have enough of both for most tasks.

You'll only benefit from the transfer speeds when you utilise two fast drives as both source and target drives.

Otherwise your Sata SSDs will still be the bottleneck when transfering files.
Loading times for OS and games are a little bit faster, just not by a huge amount.
You'll be CPU bottlenecked there anyway.

Between 3.0 and 4.0 there's basically no difference. The Samsung Evo Plus is a good pick because it has DRAM Cache onboard.

What do you think of the ADATA 1TB XPG Gammix S70 Blade drive?
Again, waste of money.

Either get the 1TB Evo Plus for way less or the 2TB Evo Plus for only 30€ more with double the size.

The issue is SSD controller latency.
With no latency (one big video file with one single controller access) and both scource and target high speed (pcie4 to pcie4) you see massive transfer speed.
That Situation is called sequential read write. There you get the big numbers.

If you work in video editing go for pcie4 for sure!

In any other case with more controller access and more and smaller files you are limited by the nand memory chip latency on the SSD and the controller latency.
If you want a boost here you need a different memory chip technology, 3dxpoint instead of Nand flash.

Check Intel Optane 905 drives, but be aware of a different price range. (500€ for 380gb). These drivers are optimized for access time and latency, not for sequential speeds.
Insanely fast for small data files/transfers such as games, database data, operating systems, but slow as fk in big file transfer such as video.
