Darauf läufts wohl hinaus... Mach ich dann trotzdem ZFS auf der externen Platte? Schadet ja nun nicht und ich müsste nicht die Daten wegschmeissen...
Rsync oder einfach doch replication.
Warum? Am Anfang wird natürlich erstmal ein riesiger Haufen an Daten übertragen. Danach allerdings nur noch die Änderungen, in Form von Snapshots. D.h. nicht mehr 1:1, alles vom ersten bis zum letzten Bit, sondern nur die Änderungen.
Das macht rsync doch auch nicht anders, und ich muss mich nicht mit snapshots rumärgern - denn das was du schreibst war ja ursprünglich meine Intention. Das will mir nicht in den Kopf das das via ZFS-replication nicht gehen soll. Ich bestehe fast auf ein Layer 8 Problem ;)
Aber wenn das nu so nicht klappt und ich nichtmal verstehe warum nicht hab ich da als Backup wenig bock drauf - Backup muss so simpel wie möglich sein. Damit ist ZFS Replication für genau diesen Anwendungsfall für mich eigentlich schon automatisch raus.
 
Wenn Du diese Anzeige nicht sehen willst, registriere Dich und/oder logge Dich ein.
Ohne Snapshots (zumindest letzter Stand) keine ZFS Replikation da diese nur die seit dem letzten Snapshot geänderten Datenblöcke überträgt.

Alternativ kann man zum Syncronisieren rsync oder robocopy nehmen.
Die basieren auf einem Datei -Vergleich und kopieren geänderte Dateien bzw Löschen entfernte Dateien.

Nachteil:
- viel langsamer und viel höhere Last insbesondere wenn viele/kleine Dateien
(ZFS Replikation ist darauf ausgelegt auch Petabyte Hochlastserver mit 1 min Delay syncron zu halten
Rsync kann da gerne auch mal im Vergleich pro Lauf eine Ewigkeit brauchen)
- keine Prüfsummenkontrolle oder Verschlüssellung der kopierten Daten

Bis auf die Prüfsummenkontrolle ist das ja herzlichst egal - ich will einmal alle x Wochen ein Vollbackup. Wenn ich das via rsync mache bin ich halt nicht gegen Fehler bei der Übertragung gefeit - imho eine der tollsten Features von ZFS überhaupt. Die anderen Nachteile sind wie gesagt keine.
Ich frage mich halt warum mein Backuppool weniger Daten enthält als mein Datapool. Das verstehe ich nach wie vor nicht - in meinen Augen ist das kein Backup wenn es nicht alle Daten enthält. Fühlt sich halt im Moment nach "Schrott" an.

Wie zur Hölle mache ich via ZFS ein regelmäßiges Vollbackup eines Pools? Das kann doch nicht unmöglich sein...
 
ZFS Erstreplikation = das komplette Dateisystem wird übertragen (Vollbackup)
Alle paar Wochen ein neues Vollbackup: Möglich indem man als Ziel jeweils ein neues Dateisystem angibt. Ist aber Unfug da damit jeweils der komplette Platz belegt wird und nicht nur die zur Vorversion geänderten Datenblöcke. Zwei Vollbackups werden den gleichen Platz belegen wie eine Replikation mit 1000 Snaps die alle einzeln und direkt zugreifbar sind. Aus Versehen vor 6 Wochen gelöschte/ geänderte Daten sind damit sofort wiederherstellbar und Ransomware die man erst entdeckt wenn alle älteren Daten verschlüsselt sind, verlieren viel von ihrem Schrecken.

ZFS Folgereplikation `= seit vorhergehender Replikation geänderte Datenblöcke, Vorversionen in Snaps (z.B. via Windows vorherige Version)

PS: Wenn die Replikation eines Dateisystems ohne Fehler durchläuft und auf dem Zieldateisystem ein neuer Snap angelegt ist, so kann man mit 100% davon ausgewhen dass alle Daten übertragen wurden. Unterschiede antstehen wenn mehr oder weniger datasets dabei sind (neben dem Dateisystem sind das Snaps oder Zvol). Außerdem ist es gar nicht so einfach festzustellen welchen Platz Daten belegen. Neben Compress, Dedup und der variablen Recsize hat auch die Füllrate des Pools einen Einfluß wegen Fragmentierung. Wer Zweifel hat, kann ein file compare machen.

Es werden 130k Nutzdaten mit recsize 128k geschrieben: belegt 2 x 128k=256k
Es werden 800 Byte geschrieben, könnte ZFS in recsize 1k aufteilen, die kleinste physische Blocksize auf Platte ist aber 4k, wird also 4k belegen.
Wenn der Pool fast voll ist: Es gibt immer weniger große freie Bereiche. Pool wird viel langsamer und es werden mehr Bytes geschrieben als notwendig.

Bei ZFS muss man gewohntes Verhalten überprüfen. ZFS macht vieles anders und fast alles viel besser als alte Dateisysteme.

Also, ich bins jetzt erst mal Leid, das erzeugt gerade unendlich Frustration bei mir - wenn ich etwas nicht verstehe macht mich das irgendwann wütend, der Zeitpunkt ist erreicht.
Ich habe jetzt erst einmal ganz normal mein Replication Task noch mal gemacht, den Pool exportiert und disconnected, und in 2 Monaten schlag ich hier wieder auf.

wollte erst ein raid6 controller kaufen nur dann bin ich über mehrere flüchtig überflogene artikel gestoßen dass ein zfs heutzutage sinnvoller ist.

Ziehe ab März2023 in ein Eigenheim mit einer Männerhöhle(Zimmerchen im Keller 20qm)
Dort möchte ich gern ein Server/Datengrab erstellen.

geplant ist meine BluRay Sammlung zu digitalisieren sodass man übers Netzwerk mittels Kodi immer Filme schauen kann ohne jedesmal die Disk zu suchen/Einzulegen.
Da dass ganze Zukunftssicher sein soll Plane ich mit:

6x20TB Iron Wolf.

Was jetzt das Betriebssystem /ZFS und die Hardware betrifft brauche ich bitte hilfe.

Solaranlage aufs Dach als Inselanlage derzeit nicht möglich - geplant in 5 Jahren (wenn die neue Heizung abgezahlt ist)
Daher sollte die Hardware Leistungsstark sein aber auch nicht unnötig Strom verbraten

Habt ihr Empfehlungen oder eine Dummies Anleitung Step by Step?
Bin nur Windows 7+10 gewohnt und hatte mal vor 7+ Jahren kurrzeitg was mitm Raspi+Python gemacht
 
Hallo Zusammen,

ich hoffe ich bin hier richtig, sonst stell ich die Frage nochmal im OpnSense Fred.
Ich wollte heute morgen in einem Anflug von Wahnsinn das Fw Upgrade machen.
Sprich OpnSense von 22.1 auf 22.7.

Dabei ist dann das System abgerasselt.
Es hat wohl nach installation der Updates sein Boot Drive nichtmehr gefunden.
Das sah dann am ende so aus:

Nach hin und her gesuche im netz und planlosem versuchen konnte ich Über das BootMenü welches die Sensemitbringt auf den "alten Kernel" umstellen.
Mit dem ging der Boot dann völlig Problemfrei.

Nun steh ich etwas doof da und weiß nicht sorecht weiter.
Hat jemand eine Ahnung woran sowas liegen kann?

Hab eigentlich WEnig Lust alles auf aktuellster Version neu aufzusetzen.
Sollte zwar auch nicht allzu "schwierig" sein aber da die Config nicht ganz easy ist weiss ich nicht ob er die dann 1 zu 1 wieder ans laufen bekommt mit all dem teaming und VLANs und Plugins usw...

21.7 dürfte noch nicht auf ZFS installiert sein und 22.x findet dann kein ZFS Laufwerk.

Dringende Empfehlung, das auf ZFS neu zu installieren. Dann vor jedem Update mit bectl -r ein Backup boot environment machen.

Edit: 21.7 war das erste Opnsense mit ZFS Support, aber man hatte die Wahl zwischen UFS und ZFS.

Hi Leute, kämpfe gerade mit einem Problem an meinem Heimserver mit Truenas Scale.
Habe einen Pool bestehend aus zwei gestripten Mirrors.
Der erste Mirror war bestehend aus 2x8TB WD White und der zweite 2x12TB WD White.
jetzt habe ich mir vor einer Woche 2 neue 18TB Exox X18 gekauft und die nacheinander ersetzt.
Zuerst habe ich die erste 8TB WD White (/dev/sda) mit einer Exos X18 18TB ersetzt indem ich die alte offline genommen habe, den Server heruntergefahren habe, alte Platte raus, neue rein und dann in Truenas Scale Replace ausgewählt hatte. Die Kiste machte dann nen resilver und hat ein paar Fehler angezeigt. Danach habe ich nen zpool clear gemacht und nochmal nen Scrub, der Scrub lief ohne Probleme durch und zeigte auch überall 0 Fehler an dann habe ich die zweite 8TB Platte (/dev/sdc) ebenso ersetzt.
Seitdem kämpfe ich mit Read und Write Errors und habe schon so 3 oder 4 Scrubs seitdem gemacht, jedoch tauchen die Fehler immer sporadisch auf beiden Platten auf. Momentan läuft mal wieder ein neuer Scrub der aber auch schon wieder Fehler aufwirft ...

Bin gerade ein bisschen mit dem Latein am Ende. Das System lief immer einwandfrei ohne jegliche Read/Write/Checksum Fehler. Die Smartwerte sehen auch in Ordnung aus meiner Meinung nach aber irgendwas läuft dennoch nicht ganz sauber. Laut dmesg wird immer der Link zu den Platte resettet wenn ein Fehler auftritt und ich denke mal deswegen ist der Smarttest fehlgeschlagen bei der Platte /dev/sdc. Ich kann mir irgendwie nicht vorstellen dass beide Platten fehlerhaft sind obwohl die Smart-Werte der Platten gut aussehen. Ich könnte mir auch vorstellen dass evtl die zweite Platte fehlerhaft ist, da die erste neue Platte nach dem resilver und Scrub keine Fehler angezeigt hatte. Angenommen die zweite Platte (/dev/sdc b5aa7dfb-4bcd-4206-803f-0162340c1d92) ist fehlerhaft, könnte die dann auch für die Fehler auf der ersten Platte im Mirror verantwortlich sein? Habt ihr ne Idee was ich am besten tun könnte? Die zwei vorherigen 12TB Platten habe ich auch noch rumliegen und habe seitdem auch nichts mehr auf dem Pool geschrieben weil ich der Sache nicht so wirklich traue. Wäre es möglich die zwei alten Platten wieder in den Pool zu übernehmen falls alle Stricke reißen?

Warum hat /dev/sdc nur eine 3.0 Gb/s-Verbindung (siehe smartctl "current 3.0 GB/s") ? Gibt es da ein Problem oder ist das so ein alter Controller? Das ist schonmal ggf. ein erstes Indiz?
Kabel schonmal sicherheitshalber getauscht?
Port beschädigt beim Abziehen der alten Platten?
Du siehst ja in dem dmesg log massiv Kommunikationsprobleme.
In seltenen Fällen gibts auch mal Kompatibilitätsprobleme mit Laufwerken an Sata-Ports.


Btw, Dir ist bewusst Dass da Daten in höchster Gefahr sind, oder? Weil Wenn dir das Mirror-0 Vdev wegstirbt (beide Disks zicken da ja) wars das.
Prio 1: Daten backuppen falls noch nicht erledigt!

So ist es; nie die Redundanz brechen wenn man Disks/SSD in einem Pool tauscht. Lieber hilfsweise nen kleinen Billo-Sata-Controller temporär in die Kiste packen.
Darum lass ich generell 1-2 Ports frei.

Ferner: Neue Disks die in einen Pool vorher etwas stresstesten. Ob sie Fehler werfen, der Datenlink hinhaut, etc.
 
Sehr gute Frage, danke für den Hinweis dass die eine Platte nur auf 3 Gbits läuft. Ist mir noch gar nicht aufgefallen. Weiß ich jetzt auf Anhieb auch nicht warum, klingt aber definitiv verdächtig.
Kabel habe ich bisher noch nicht getauscht, habe das ja nicht angefasst und nur die neuen Platten in den Käfig geschoben.
Also habe als Gehäuse cs CS381 von Silverstone. Das Gehäuse hat nen Plattenkäfig und ich habe da nen Kabel Mini-SAS HD auf 4x Sata (https://www.caseking.de/silverstone-sst-cps05-re-sas-hd-kabel-12-gb-s-zusa-216.html). Mein Board hat 6 SATA-Steckplätze und mit den 2 zusätzlichen SSDs, die in nem eigenen Pool sind war kein weiterer Port mehr frei. Hätte natürlich auch meinen HBA Dell Perc 310 geflash auf IT noch zusätzlich einbauen können aber das wäre wieder zu viel Bastelarbeit geworden auf die ich zu dem Zeitpunkt nicht unbedingt Lust hatte. Habe den im Normalfall ausgebaut weil ich mir den zusätzlichen Stromverbrauch sparen will und ich bisher ganz gut mit den 6 Sata-Ports ausgekommen bin.

Edit, falsches Kabel verlinkt, dass war das das ich für den HBA gekauft hatte ...

Ich hatte auch schon schlechte Backplanes, die für Kommunikationsprobleme gesorgt haben, btw. > Zumindest mal die Datenkontakte mit Iso reinigen und ggf. die Disks mal direkt an die Kabel ohne Backplanes. Um die Backplanekontakte auszuschliessen als Fehlerquelle.
 
Tippe auch Mal auf Kabel / Stecker.

Hatte Mal eine SSD mit Windows drauf auf eine andere spiegeln wollen .. 1MB/s machte mir Angst, bis ich Mal die Kabel neu gesteckt habe. Danach ging's ratzfatz 🤦‍♂️
 
Habe jetzt erstmal die Kiste runtergefahren und den HBA eingebaut und diesen mit dem anderen Kabel mit dem zweiten Käfig verbunden und die zwei neuen Platten dort hinein gesteckt und nen neuen Scrub gestartet. Falls es jetzt so läuft muss es dann wohl entweder an den SATA-Ports, an den Kabeln oder an der Backplane liegen wobei ich diese eigentlich nicht angefasst habe und es bis zu dem Plattentausch damit einwandfrei lief.
Falls es nicht läuft könnte dann entweder:
Das andere Kabel auch defekt sein (unwahrscheinlich)
der HBA kaputt sein (lief das letzte mal einwandfrei)
die andere Backplane ne Macke haben (kann ich nicht ausschließen, habe diesen Käfig nur mal zeitweise benutzt)
beide Platten defekt (halte ich auch für unwahrscheinlich)
die neuen Platten sind aus irgendeinem Grund nicht mit meinem Kram kompatibel.

Falls die Kabel defekt sind, müsste ich dann eigentlich nicht haufenweise UDMA_CRC_Error_Count-Fehler sehen?

Und das mit dem Backup ist so ne Sache... sind doch viele Daten und habe momentan nur die zwei anderen 8TB Platten, die vorher der Mirror waren. Theoretisch wären die groß genug aber hinzufügen kann ich sie momentan nicht weil die ja kleiner als die neuen Platten sind :d. Das einzige was mir einfällt ich könnte nen neuen Stripe-Pool mit den 2 Platten machen und dann von dem jetzigen Pool aus replizieren per zfs send.

Ich denke mal es gibt wahrscheinlich keine Möglichkeit die alten Platten im Notfall wieder dem Pool hinzuzufügen oder? Weil auf den Platten müssten ja eigentlich noch die Daten sein die auf den neuen Platten drauf sind (Habe seit dem Tausch keine Daten verändert aber ich denke mal selbst die geänderten Metadaten macht mir wohl einen Strich durch die Rechnung)

Hey Leute, kurzes Update, war die letzten Tage damit beschäftigt alles mögliche auszuprobieren und habe bestimmt schon wieder 10 Scrubs zum Testen gemacht.
Habe verschiedene Kombinationen aus anderen Sata-Kabeln, zweiter Backplane und dem Extra Dell Perc H310 (IT Mode) getestet und es stellt sich heraus das keines der Teile defekt ist, weder die Backplane, noch das Kabel, noch irgendeine Platte.
Jede Kombination läuft außer die Platten sind am Mainboard angeschlossen. Es liegt wohl an meiner Benutzung von Powertop unter Linux. Es scheint so als dass die Seagate-Platten darauf zickiger reagieren als die WD. Momentan läuft ein Scrub auf der zweiten Backplane mit dem zweiten Sata-Kabel und allen Platten am Mainboard angeschlossen und der Scrub ist schon bei 50%. Bei 50% hätte er vorher auf jeden Fall schon Fehler geworfen mit der selben Hardware; aber jetzt ohne powertop läuft alles soweit. Ich will noch nicht zuviel loben aber das scheint wirklich der Verursacher der Probleme zu sein. Ich werde ihn jetzt nochmal komplett durchlaufen lassen und dann mal austesten welche "Tunable" in powertop dafür der Auslöser war, ich schätze mal irgendeine Einstellung die die SATA-Verbindung betrifft.
 
Angesichts des Themas Energiekosten, Energieknappheit, etc.:

Es war in dem ein oder anderen Post in diesem Mega-Thread schon die Rede von HDD-Spindown. Ich konnte aber keine näheren Infos oder Tutorials dazu finden, wie man das mit Napp-IT umsetzt. @gea hat schon öfter geschrieben, dass er es nicht einsetzt und dass es verständlicherweise nicht gerade ins Konzept von einem ZFS-Filer passt. Andere User schreiben, dass sie es nutzen.

Was muss bei einem Napp-IT-Filer mit OmniOS alles gemacht werden, dass die HDDs die nur Pools mit Datengräbern drauf haben bei Nichtbenutzung einen Spindown machen? Wo kann man da die Zeiten und dergleichen einstellen? Ich gehe mal nicht davon aus, dass das Controllerabhängig ist, oder doch?

Ich hab wie wahrscheinlich einige andere auch einen AIO-Server zu Hause stehen, auf Basis von ESXi. Da da nicht nur Napp-IT mit nem durchgereichten HBA drauf läuft, sondern auch die Firewall und ein paar andere Dinge, kann und will ich den nicht einfach abschalten. Aber es muss halt auch nicht sein, dass die Platten ständig drehen (40-50Watt * 24h * 356 * 40cent/kWh = 136EUR/Jahr, tendenz steigend). Ein anderer Aspekt ist, dass die Platten im Sommer dann doch schon mal etwas wärmer werden können als sie sollten und das der Lebensdauer auch nicht grad gut tut.

Ich würde hierfür gerne einen eigenen User in OmniOS haben, der sonst nix anderes kann, als SSL-Zertifikate über SFTP/SSH in /var/web-gui/_my/certs hochzuladen. Wie stell ich das an? Einen User anlegen und Passwort vergeben bekomm ich noch hin, aber dass der nur das besagte Verzeichnis aufrufen und beschreiben darf, da hörts dann auf. Kann mir bitte jemand sagen, wie man das macht? Apache sollte natürlich auch die Zertifikate lesen dürfen.

Reicht es aus, nur die Zertifikatsdatei regelmäßig neu hochzuladen oder muss dann auch noch der Apache nach jeder Erneuerung neu gestartet werden? Wenn nicht, sollte der User auch noch berechtigt sein, Apache neu zu starten.


Edit: Ich bekomm nicht mal ne keyfile-basierte SSH-Verbindung mit dem root-User hin. Was muss ich machen, um auf Napp-IT mit omnios als Unterbau eine SSH/SFTP-Verbindung über keyfiles aufzubauen?

Alles per normalem User machen ist eher schwierig da man eigentlich root Rechte braucht. Als Alternative oder Ergänzung würde ich ein Script (Shell, Perl etc) per "other job" starten. Der Job läuft als root und darf alles. Alernativ ssh als root.

Den Webserver müsste man neu starten (mini_httpd bis OmniOS 151038, aktuelles OmniOS Apache)

Ich habe den Dienst aber nicht aktiviert. Ich habe auch keine Schaltfläche zum Deaktivieren oder Aktivieren im Web GUI gefunden. Wenn ich auf "Services > minIO S3 cloud" klicke, gibt es keine Schaltfläche zum Deaktivieren bzw. Aktivieren. Bei den anderen Diensten kann ich das ohne Probleme machen und die Schaltflächen sind vorhanden.

Zur Erklärung - am Wochenende habe ich ganz frisch OmniOS LTS r151038 installiert. Anschließend via pkg update alle OmniOS Updates installiert, IP-Adresse/DNS und Co. festgelegt, Nutzer/Passwörter vergeben und SSH aktiviert und das System am Ende neu gestartet.

Dann wie gewohnt napp-it via CLI installiert: wget -O - www.napp-it.org/nappit | perl und das System am Schluss neu gestartet.

Nach dem ersten Anmelden im Web GUI von napp-it, waren folgende globale Dienste bereits aktiv ohne manuellen Eingriff durch mich:

- iSCSI Comstar
- SSH Server
- minIO S3 cloud
- Zones

Ich habe anschließend nur den SMB Dienst selbst aktiviert. SSH und SMB sind die einzigen Dienste ich benötige, daher habe ich iSCSI Comstar und Zones deaktiviert, aber für minIO S3 cloud habe ich leider keine Möglichkeit gefunden das zu Deaktivieren, sonst hätte ich nicht die Frage gestellt. Werde jetzt wie von dir beschrieben minIO S3 cloud deinstallieren, aber normal sollte man das auch direkt im Web GUI deaktivieren können.
 
Napp-it startet minio nicht als Service sondern wie ein normales Programm wenn man minio Sharing für ein ZFS Dateisystem aktiviert und beendet es wenn man das Sharing beendet oder beim Booten wenn man Autostart dazu aktiviert hat. Laufende Programme kann man abfragen via System > PID oder "ps axw | grep minio"

Sollte minio doch als System Service per svcadm gestartet worden sein kann man den per svcadm stoppen. Sollte aber nicht der Fall sein. Laufende Systemdienste kann man im Menü Services > Status sehen (oder Befehl svcs)

update:
Das Menü About zeigt den minio Dienst fälschlicherweise als online an auch wenn er gar nicht läuft.
Behoben in den aktuellen Versionen.
