[Sammelthread] Samsung 8Gbit DDR4 C-Die K4A8G085WC - OC-Ergebnisse im Startbeitrag! [updated]

Ok, crashes are probably from my house electricity, since my pc crashed in same moment as mibox (also other devices dont really work as they should). Sooo, what settings should I change first?:d
I don't think its due to your electric supply mate. We have the same CPU and I also have problem as yours, pass on benchmarks but still crashes on games. Both 2K22 and SOTR crashes, these are the games I'm currently playing. Never had this issue with my previous kit

Yeah. Rn im kinda sure its cpu / mobo. Changed psu to rm650x, still happens. Crashes at 2933mhz fully auto, but rn trying to see what will happen on 2700mhz. Kinda sad that I bought 3600mhz kit, and it crashes even on 2933mhz. And yup, cpu clocks are stock atm. Gotta change to 12th intel gen asap. And yep, haven't bought ups yet, since psu has protections on its own, so thought it will be more than enough. My ol 'mustard and ketchup psu was 2/10 anyway ; p.

I said before it was crashing mainly in Valorant. Rn it crashes everywhere, even fully idle. So prob after years my cpu degraded and wanna go on vacations ;p.

Edit: Nope. Crashes at 2733mhz. Maybe its mobo that is fault here? I'm starting to going crazy after all these months with crashes. Now my speakers are doing "poof" sound after turning pc off. :stupid:

Are you using PSU extension cables? I'm more stable now after removing the extension cable for the 8pin CPU connector.
I accidentally came for this solution when I install a NVMe drive as OS drive. System crashes and after reading some threads, some point out that the extension cables are the culprit.
So I've tried it. Not it's not crashing my NVMe and I noticed that RAM OC is stable as well. I'm still monitoring though thru real word gaming and productivity.

Too bad, you are almost getting to stable. Try other RAM first just to see if the problem is really on your Mobo or CPU.
Or try to run at base clock. If it runs well in base clock, then you just need to find the right timing when you go to higher requencies

Well, thing is how much time do i need to run base clocks xd I tried it for a week, there wasn't any crashes indeed, but not so long ago i was running 3400mhz (auto everything) for more than 2 weeks without any issues. In 2021 i also tried 3400 with custom timings etc, was stable for month. This is complete lottery if it crashes, and I don't know how much time should I try stock settings.

On old kit i believe i had same issues as this, but it gonna be hard to move back to 8gb. Can try, ain't gonna hurt i guess.

Edit 30.03.2022: +10 days now without any crash (before almost everyday, or every 2 days). Wasn't sure if it was fully on auto, so cleared da cmos. Also disabled fastboot startup (inside windows) since i forgot to do it after format. Running 3466mhz whole this time. Let's see how long it will stay like this, seems like it did a trick (inb4 it will all start again).
Just wanna add, that after pc crashes, event viewer shows Kernel-Power (41) errors. There been 3 whea errors in 18.03, cache hierarchy and bus/interconnect error. No errors since then.

Hi guys!

This week, I got some free time to do some overclocking. I tried going from 3600 to 3733 but there are some issues I don't know how to take.
  • My overclock would sometimes become unstable during daytime - I always get a ton of errors in TM5. At night, I could play Apex Legends and GTA 5 without crashing.
  • I changed ProcODT to 53.3 + ClkDrvStr to 40.0 and it somehow made my overclock cooler. Random shutdows stopped from occuring. I get lesser errors now.
How can I make this guy more stabler?
What are the possible actions to be done?

My motherboard is also not that good. I can't change or find CLDO VDDP, VDDG CCD, VDDG IOD and MEM VTT. I'm kinda losing hope lol.

Try the same setting but with trfc 597.

Also Cezanne does not have VDDG Voltages because of the cpu design.
CLDO VDDP should be above DRAM Voltage. If not check if you have an "AMD Overclocking" menu. There also should be VDDP voltage.

Hey there. I am back for a bit. I decided to give my C die's another shot at overclocking. I seem to have been a LITTLE bit more successful this time than last.

Just to give a refresher I am on 3800x on Aorus X570 Pro wifi.
My memory is Avexir Core 2 3600 18-20-20-44.
It's 4 x 8GB
These are as you guessed it... C-dies.

I have managed to generate the following results. Not stable. I am still tuning and am seeking advice.
3800 18-21-21-44 2CR GDM-off.

I want to push for better 3800 results. If I can't I will fall back on 3733.
3800 18-20-20-20-40 wont post.
3800 18-21-21-44 boots to windows (typing on it right now) BUT DEFINITELY not stable
So here is 3800 so far. What I dont understand is where do I go from here? I am confused which values I should start adjusting FIRST. Anyhelp getting this stable would be greatly appreciated.

Must I start adjusting secondary and tertiary timings first to try stabilize?

Or must I play with cad bus, procODT and drive strengths first? Now that I am at least booting into 3800 cl 18 where do I go from here with my OC. There are so many parameters I am not sure where to even start with the rest of the settings.

I guess this is the end of the road for me (Idk if i'd go for 3800 but it seems like i'm just wasting time lol). I was able to stabilize at 3733 CL18-21-21-21-34 @ 1.34v during the last 4 days. The random reboots, bsods and game crash are now gone.

Here are my timings:
1649243326424.png

I performed TM5 Extreme1, HCI Memtest 500%, and memtest86+ with no errors. (Im lazy xd) (Idk if I tested my ram correctly)
I've been playing Minecraft, GTA V, Apex Legends and Cities Skylines with this setup for a day now. So far no issues occured. :)

My memory latency improved too xd. From 64-65 to 60-61.

Also, seeing @Alastair_S1D push for 3800 makes me wanna do the same HAHA. Though, I don't have enough time to do it, and I don't want to suffer more from brain damage.

I know the brain damage of which you speak. I'm struggling to wrap my head around all the timing parameters. 🤷🏻

I'm desperately trying to get 3800 even mildly stable. I'm going to try lower ODT levels as I think as far as I understand it might bring dram temperatures down and I know Cdie is VERY heat sensitive.

I think I am giving up on 3800. I have loosened down to 18-25-25-25-50. I think I am at the hard wall of C-die. And I do not think I will get 3800 cas 18 stable. I wont try 3800 cl19 as that will likely be slower than 3733 cas18 which I am going to try get stable.

And then suddenly I did not give up on my 3800MHz dream. I have managed to get 3800Mhz stable on 3x runs of 1usmus Dram calculator memtest on easy mode.

YES yes I know 120 seconds of stress testing is not a benchmark for stability. But it is significantly better than what I was managing. I was getting errors INSTANTLY. I will also continue to use Easy mode for my tuning as I need something that I can run quick tests on so I don't waste entire HOURS between changes of settings.

So what have I done to get this far?

I have been messing around with various combinations of ProcODT, Drive strengths and RTT settings.

I have discovered that my particular CPU/DRAM combination seems to be preferring higher ODT settings.
ProcODT is at 48
RttNom at RZQ/7
RttWr at RZQ/3
RttPark at RZQ/4
ClkDrvStr at 120
AddrCmdDrvStr at 40
CsOdtDrvStr at 40
CkeDrvStr at 40

I have seen performance improvements so far. Aida reports 53GB/s / 30.5GB/s / 51.5GB/s @ 68ns.
1usmus Dram Easy settings went from 143 seconds at 3600 down to 140seconds at very unstable 3800 down to 135 seconds at this semi-stable 3800.

My progress thus far.

Have you tried lower dram voltage?

My Avexir Core 2 ram prefers anything below 1.3v. I'm currently running my setup at 1.28v.

3600 CL18-19-19-19-30 @ 1.26v
3733 CL18-21-21-21-34 @ 1.28v

If I go beyond 1.3v, my pc would start acting weird.

3733 CL18-21-21-21-34 @ 1.28v

If I go beyond 1.3v, my pc would start acting weird.
We both have Avexir sticks hey? That's cool!

My ram is pretty specific about how much voltage it wants as well. But mine prefers a little more juice.

My ram likes EXACTLY 1.35vdimm.
So I have it set to 1.33v SET and according to software and my DMM I am getting 1.35V into the sticks.

1.35 set gives me 1.38vdimm and at that level even my basic XMP isn't happy.

At 1.3set I'm getting ~1.32 and my sticks aren't happy.

But that was before I messed around with the ODT and drive strengths. Messing with those seems to have opened the tolerance window Slightly. But it's tolerance for more voltage. Not less.

So yeah. These Avexir's are basically bouncing off the red line right out of the box. I switched to AIDA as I was finding hci MemTest included in DRAM Calculator to be a little bit too inconsistent. And Although I can boot at 3800/1900 AIDA errors INSTANTLY. 6 seconds. In any combination of timings and drive strengths. I cut fclk down to 1/2 to check if it was my IMC. But the errors carried on all the way to 3666. But 3600 runs. So basically no frequency headroom.

So far there is not a significant amount of headroom to tighten things up either. Im at 18-20-19-39 so far. So far pretty disappointed. I was considering just binning these kits and trying to buy a new kit. But I do not know if I want to go through that much effort. I was also considering buying some Thermalright HR07s that my e-tailer still has knocking around as old stock. Just because I know how terribly heat sensitive C-dies can be. (Also I feel that would look so cool aesthetically.) But I can't justify the expense on bad memory.

So this is my progress on tightening up on my 3600MHz XMP profile.

I must admit I am a little disappointed with the gains I have made. I have seen very little improvement in AIDA 64 latency and bandwidth. My Geek3 memory scores went from 5500/6710 up to 5900/6900. (Which to be honest is very similar to the performance I saw at unstable 3800 18-21-21-42. So I guess there is some light on the horizon.

I could not BUDGE on TFAW. 38 is what I get at xmp. And is I set TFAW at 36 it was unstable. So no room to move on TFAW.

I see @Gabbygytes used CKE of 1. What benefit is there to modifying CKE? Can anyone guide here.

Here is a screenshot of my progress so far. Any inputs?

Hello everyone!
I don't know Deutsch, i'll write in eng

Recently upgraded to R5 3600 and decided to overclock the RAM above 3466 MHz.
Motherboard: MSI b350m pro vd-plus
RAM: beloved Samsung C-Die M378A1K43CB2-CRC

I tried 3600 first, then I decided to try 3800, but judging by what I read from this thread, I need to find the right combination of CAD_BUS and PROC_ODT, otherwise 19-21-21-21-41 at 3800 MHz are unstable, even with auto secondary and tertiary timings, or set stable 1.36V but the B350m pro vd-plus doesn't allow me to set the voltage more accurately (1,34 V in bios transform to 1,344-1,36V).
So, I decided to go down to 3600 17-20-20-20-40. Just completed Prime95 LargeFFt (5 hours). It's seem stable.
Secondary and tertiary timings are conservative, any idea what timings I should lower first?

EDIT: it wasn't stable when running tm5 anta777 extreme, and i can't get same result in aida64 bench after restart even with 1:1 timings (magic Prime 95).

A very good result indeed. I have tried for 3800mhz. But no combination of ODT or cad bus or RTT settings work. Memory is instantly unstable with anything over 3600.

Best I have managed on 3600MHz. I have stopped now as this is 30 mins stable in AIDA and I am happy with that.

I agree, it seems like there's not that much difference between 3600 and 3800. I didn't see an increase in performance from any applications I use.

+ It turns out that I could go lower than tRAS 30. It somehow improved my mem latency.

My 3600 performed similar to 3733 18-21-21-34 when I changed its tRAS to 28 in terms of memory latency in AIDA64. (IDK why this thing happened)

Tras can "technically" go lower than TCL+TRCD because of the charge cache. Maybe I should try lower TRAS settings. But I doubt I can get TRC.

And I am very disappointed my TFAW won't budge from 38 (which is what it's set at by default with XMP)

I'm really tempted to sell this memory and try my luck with some cheap OEM kits searching for the right IC's of course. Maybe some Bdie oems.

Lower TRAS settings cause me to loose performance. So I'm guessing maybe I am loosing stability there.

thanks, but it seems that bench was wrong (can't get that result again after restart)
and when i start tm5 anta777 extreme i get error in 10 min
after all, i set VDIMM 1,3V(1,316V in HWinfo64). 4 cycles of anta777 extreme (2 hours)

in wednesday will try to drop rfc/rc

try to lower VDIMM (1.3V for example) or/and playing with ODT, RTT and CAD_BUS settings. I set standard ODT (48) and RTT (off/off/48(RZQ/5))

I don't have any room to shift ODT or RTTPark otherwise I loose my 1T command rate. All of my RTTs have to be a high value otherwise my system complains.

I think I am loosing performance with too low Tras as there isn't enough charge left and it's inserting TRP delay. Hence the loss in performance. So I really think this is the limit.

As i said, can't get that result in aida bench
Even when i dropped trfc to 576 i cant get 51,5 read and 67 latency. After many runs AVG result: 50,6 - 50, 9 read and 69 ns latency
TM5 Extreme1 1,5 hours passed without error, so its seems stable
But i think i'll stop at that settings, cause OC this system with rtx 3050 its just for fun and not much profitable for me right now.

It's funny how different set ups respond to different stability testing.

I could do 1 hour aida. But struggled to get HCI memtest stable. It was very strange.

Hello everyone! Cannot speak German, but greetings!

I've been stuck with some 4x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX (cmk16gx4m2b3000c15) for a while sitting at XMP settings, which is labeled as 3000mhz CL15. Recently found this thread through some searching around on overclocks on C-Die RAM, and I'm super happy with the results I've managed to get. My AIDA64 is bugged on Win11, therefore the benchmark tests are not properly done (says CPU/RAM is running at incorrect values, it's a problem with Memory Integrity in settings apparently).

I've run an OC of 3600Mhz on it with the timings you can see in the photo. Stable with TestMem5 using Extreme1@anta777 config, all workloads and games appear to be stable with no crashes.

1650002014127.png

Settings are as follows on a Z370-A PRIME:

VCCIO: 1.175v
VCCSA: 1.15v
DRAM Voltage: 1.32v
Memory frequency: 3600mhz
tCAS: 18
trCD: 20
tRP: 20
tRAS: 41
tRFC: 594

I have not tested to push past 3600, but don't feel that it is a current priority to test considering the nature of how smooth the overclock is from an original XMP speed of 3000! Please let me know about anything regarding my results!

Looking good. Most C-die has a hardwall in the region of 3600. Mine as an example will error in stress tests instantly at 3666 no matter what combination of timings I use. I would still suggest trying to push on as some people have gotten 3733 and 3800 and we know Intel likes frequency. Other than that I wouldn't try too hard pushing timings lower than 18-20-20. Obviously its worth a try but I wouldn't expect tighter than that, although I argue your TRAS might be able to go lower. I would try 38 on TRAS. And even lower still as DDR4 is not necessarily constrained bt TCL+TRP for TRAS thanks to the charge cache, but mileage may vary. Lower than 38TRAS for me causes performance losses.
