Hardware: The next level of aiming
Q: Will this work in Windows2000/ME/98/3.11?
A: Not this patch. They are implemented differently.
Razer's mice will work by telling the other OS's, through it's hardware, that it's capable of doing 1ms.
(originally I misinformed ppl to think it was software based, through their drivers. sorry about that)
Windows XP is rather dumb, and just sets 125hz no matter what the hardware says. Therefore is this patch valuable for windows XP users only.
Q: Does this work with ps2?
A: Usb only.
Q: Why can't I use 333hz?
A: The technique used in the patch won't allow it. You can also notice that the 250hz and 500hz patches are slightly different.
The 6th hexvalue is 8A in the 250hz patch, and 8C in the 500hz.Assembler code for each of them:
8A: mov cl, byte[edx]
8C: mov word[edx], cs
Just notice that they use either byte or word.
You basicly double the information being processed. byte = 8bits. word = 16bits.
So you would need another technique to achieve 333hz (12bits).
Q: Is it wrong when the numbers are differing in the mouserate program?
A: No. Not as long as you move the mouse fast, and the mouserate keeps averaging at aprox. the same number.
Q: Can I use it with my wireless mouse?
A: Not recommended, and if you own any wireless mouse you should slap yourself, REALLY hard.
Q: Why won't my super duper mx510 not work with 500hz?
A: A sideeffect from their upgrade in the hardware. It transmits data at 12 bit report rate, compared to the old which uses 8bit.
But lets see if they come up with something clever themselfs when they read this *geeklaugh* Diamondback will transmit at 16bit btw
There is also a higher cpu load with mx510, so when patching to 4 times the normal samplerate. It will simply use even more resources, check the Task Manager(ctrl+alt+del) if you suspect your pc is not handling it to well.
Q: What is the issue with the intellimouse 4 then?
A: That mouse got problems with increasing the samplerate even above 125hz.
Not even by using it with ps2 and 200hz, it refuses completely to go above 100hz.
You got a brilliant opportunity since xmas is arriving soon, so give that mouse away to someone you really care about :P And get another mouse. And honestly, I have no clue about what microsoft tried to do with it.
Q: Will it affect my mousedrivers?
A: No
Q: Will this be done more easy soon?
A: When someone care to make an installer identifying all the different usbport.sys version.
Q: Will Razer's new mouse, the Diamondback, be any good?
A: Yes, they went the way to finally increase the data report rate. And even passing by logitech. As said before, all the way to 16bit.
So I honestly hope they will break through with that mouse. And they claim it to be 1600dpi.
Impressive numbers again, but take it with a grain of salt untill someone with a clue has reviewed the mouse.
Q: Will the Diamondback run at standard 125hz only?
A: No, it will run at 1000hz by default. But only in windows2000. So you will need to use this patch to get it up and running "almost" optimal under WindowsXP.
