Habe hier im Forum jetzt häufiger gelesen, dass das MSI S260 als Notebook vorgeschlagen wurde. Darüber hinaus gibt es ja auch bereits viele, die dieses Notebook benutzen.

  Das VGA-Bios erfährt ein Update. Im Bios selber ist anschließend eine neue Funktion zu finden: "Enable Execute Disable Bit"
  Diese Technik soll gegen Schädlinge helfen, die Programmschwächen bzw. daraus folgende Abstürze ausnutzen. Ab dem Service Pack 2 kann diese Funktion unter Windows XP für höhere Sicherheit sorgen, ist allerdings nicht als Virenschutz misszuverstehen. Auch Linux bietet eine entsprechende Unterstützung.
  
  
  
• #Firmware-Update leicht gemacht
  
  Bootable-Disk mit Nero erstellen und Inhalt der komprimierten Datei mit auf die CD brennen. Von CDROM booten und in der Eingabeaufforderung "flash" eintippten und bestätigen. Es ist unbedingt zu beachten, dass das Notebook nicht mit Akku betrieben wird; unbedingt über das Netzteil mit Strom versorgen!
  Nach dem Update nicht vergessen: ins Bios, dann "F9" und "F10".

• #Das "Lüfterproblem"
  
  Es gibt bereits ein altbekanntes Problem, dass der Lüfter schon ab einer Prozessortemperatur von 42° anfängt zu laufen. Das ist natürlich ziemlich unangenehm und bei dem verbauten Prozessor eher unnötig.
  Durch ein Update der EC-Firmware kann dieses Problem behoben werden.

  Vorgehen ähnlich dem Bios-Update. Boot-CD erstellen, im prompt "1012ec52" eingeben, bestätigen, fertig. Es handelt sich dabei um ein Update des Winbond W83L950D SA8110 (Winbond Mobile Keyboard and Embedded Controller).
  
  Die originale (laute) Version 1.1 des Controllers, falls sie jemand doch noch einmal benötigt, gibt es hier: Klick.

• #Synaptics Touchpad
  
  Für das Touchpad stehen spezielle Treiber zur Verfügung die ein für mich nerviges Problem beheben konnten.
  Ziel ist es beim plugon einer USB-Maus das Touchpad zu deaktivieren und beim Disconnect der Maus zu reaktivieren. Dies funktioniert auch mit Treiberversion 7.10.10 (Download) und den dazugehörigen Einstellungen im Maustreiber, wie auf dem folgenden Bild zu erkennen ist:
  
  
  
  
  Eine weitere Möglichkeit dieses "Feature" mit neueren Treibern (bspw. 7.12.7) zu nutzen wäre folgende:

  Die Registry-Datei ist nichts anderes als die 'fujitsu.ini' bei den FS-Treibern. Diese Option ist bisher lediglich den 7er Versionen des Treibers vorbehalten.

  Da das Notebook auch als Barebone bei vielen Discountern angeboten wurde und wird, gibt es gerade bei Ausstattung bzw. den verbauten Komponenten Unterschiede. Ich möchte bereits jetzt darauf hinweisen, dass es sich immer empfiehlt ein original MSI-Bios auf seinem Notebook zu flashen. Gerade MSI Programme reagieren mit Inkompatibilität bei Verwendung von einem Bios von bspw. Norma oder Medion.

Würde mich über Ergänzungen bei den einzelnen Punkten (Shops, Tipps, etc) sehr freuen und werde sie auch direkt mit aufnehmen.

CPU Voltage getroffen hat?

Mich würde interessieren ob man damit den Lüfter etwas drosseln kann das er nicht dauernd läuft!

ich verwende jetzt RM Clock CPU nur das ist ja noch komplizierter! und da würd ich gerne wissen welche einstellungen ich treffen kann damit die Volt runtergehen!

hi, ich möchte mir auch ein solches notebook kaufen, allerdings schwanke ich noch zwischen s260, s270 und dem medion sim 2010 von mediaonline.

weiss jmd, welchen akku das sim2010 und das 270 hat, groß oder klein?
merkt man einen unterschied zwischen 1GB ram und 512MB ?

klar ist für mich, dass das megabook von medion kein bluetooth, keinen dvd brenner, weniger cpu-leistung und eine kleinere festplatte hat, allerdings das billigste mit 699€ ist. die beiden anderen kosten 849€ (s260) und ca 740€ (s270), allerdings mit großem akku (für mich wichtig), 80gb festplatte, 1GB ram und bluetooth.

weiss von euch jmd. welchen akku das s270 hat mit 512MB und dem 1,8 turion cpu?
und eine notebooktasche und mini-maus bräuchte ich auch, ich dachte an die dicota perfectskin und an die dicota pocket maus, ist es möglich notebook und maus in die tasche zu stecken?

You can purchase a bigger battery which works both for s260 and s270.
MSI batteries are not expensive.

S270 has considerably smaller battery life and I don't advice to consider it.
I think minitechnet.de has reviews of s260 and s270, so that you can compare them (though, not everything they write is necesarily correct).

HDD, RAM and even processor in S260 and its medion clone are upgradeable.
Think carefully if you really need more processor power NOW. I think current medion's offer is optimal for a beginner.

Genau so sehe ich das auch. Hol dir das Medion, wenn du das bisschen mehr an Leistung nicht brauchst und kauf dir einen Akku so dazu. Die Akkus sind für die gesamte S2xx-Reihe baugleich, den großen Akku bekommt man bereits zu Preisen ab 70 Euro.

Das mit der Dicota-Tasche müsste gehen. Habe auch so eine, allerdings von Targus, aber die sind ja eigentlich gleich. Da passt die Maus locker noch mit rein, allerdings beult es halt die Tasche aus und als Dauerlösung wäre es mir nicht recht, aber das ist ja Geschmackssache...

Das von Medion hat den großen Akku, glaub ich. Das ist halt der, der hinten noch mal ein Stück raussteht. Ist ein nettes Notebook, meine Freundin hat es.

Werde evtl irgendwann mal den Ram aufrüsten. Ansonsten passts aber. Und das mit dem Lüfterpatch muss ich mal machen. Kenn mich da aber noch gar nicht aus

und zwar immer noch das das laptop teilweise einfriert wenn ich was übers lan kopiere.
mainboard und arbeitsspeicher wurde schon getauscht...trotzdem. das ding hängt dabei immer am strom.

entweder das asus a8jp und somit klein, handlich, leistungsstark und teuer oder
etwas im 12" bereich, also noch handlicher und weniger power, dafür mehr laufzeit.

Ich hab das MSI S271 mit dem 8 Zellen Akku und wenn ich ihn vollständig auflade komme ich auf eine Laufzeit von 2 Stunden und ca 40 Minuten. Da darf ich aber nix nebenbei machen!

meine freundin hat das msi s270w...ich hab bei ihr den prozessor undervoltet und sämtliche patches installiert (battery hotfix, usb hotfix)..insgesamt kommt sie auf eine akkuleistung von ca. 4:30 Stunden mit 30-40% helligkeit..sie hat auch den großen akku..mfg

Yes, but there are a lot of different configurations for this book.
AMD Turion CPU, Intel Celeron, Intel core solo/duo, core 2 duo etc.

If I buy a not-gaming book, then it must be cheap, long battery power and and not too heavy ( around 2 kg ). resolution above XGA.
Therefore I found the MSI book s260 / 270, but which of all this different books is the best?
What do you think of this Targa Traveller 812 MT30 book. It uses a MSI barebone and is cheaper than the MSI ones.

Certainly MSI S260 is better than S270 with turion. S260 uses Pentium M Sonoma which is not the latest but it is more than enough. The price of 699,- for this model from mediaonline is very good. Nothing I know can compete with it now. For this reason it is better to buy this slightly outdated model rather than to pay 300 euro more for the model with new core duo. The power of core duo will almost not be used in everyday applications.

For example, I use an ultraportable with 1,1GHz ULV Pentium M processor.
I run a virtual display program with 4 virtual displays. In each of these displays I have several browser windows. I also run anti-virus, anti-spyware, cygwin with several X-terminals ... There are only very minor delays in applications launching which are mainly due to the slow hard disc with 4200rpm. I use Process Tamer program in order to make sure that some application will not suddenly start to suck all computing resources to disturb the others. This is just to illustrate that one don't need a superpowerful processor to do ones everyday work. It is better to have a light, silent notebook with reasonable battery life and to do the processor intense jobs on a more powerfull systems. However, if one wants to game and edit videos on the move, then the story is different.

The price of 699,- for Turion X2 Targa model from Lidl (MSI S271) is good. You don't risk anything if you buy it to try and return it if you don't like it. Check the fan noise, the battery time (you can order a bigger battery for this notebook separately), the design quality, and the dead pixels on the display. The performance difference from a single core Pentium M model (S260) will be hardly noticeable. Besides, S260 has a bios update which is able to make the fan silent, and turion MSI models don't have it. I personally would still prefer S260 but the offer of Lidl is also good (taking into account the software extras and dvb-t tuner) though, probably, I would still not advice to buy it to my friends and I would rather recommend to look for something else even if slightly more expensive. You can also search for an alternative opinion on the forum of discountfan.de where such offers are usually discussed.

The Lidle offer got 36 month warrenty, the mediaonline one only 24 month.
I don't know the softwaredifferences but the lidle one got an dvb-t receiver.

Right, and it is also noisier. I just don't believe the reviewer who pretend to state the opposite.

I think it is 2,05kg for S260. The difference can be due to different marketting -) Besides, Turion model has a more massive cooling system, I guess, and they might also add the weight of tv-tuner to the total weight.

The Lidle offer got 36 month warrenty, the mediaonline one only 24 month.

medion notebook has appeared on the market 1,5 years ago and I guess they sell refurbished ones now, hence the shorter warranty. The original Aldi offer also included dvb-t tuner in the price of 999,- 1,5 years ago.

I currently use a refurbished one. One can take reasonable risks. I am not afraid to open the notebook to try to repair it, so the risk is reasonable for me. It is important to check and test everything without compromises during the first two weeks, and return it if you don't like it.

Ich traue mir auch zu das Notebook zu öffnen und kleinere Reparaturen sollten kein Problem sein, aber wenn eben Platinen kaputt gehen wirds auch für einen Bastler eng ohne Ersatzteile!

Ich finde es ist schwer seriöse Shops mit refurbished Books zu finden. Habe bisher nur Laptsore gefunden. Wenn ich mir ein solches Book kaufen sollte, dann nur, wenn es deutlich günstiger ist, als ein neue Book. Also als unter 700€, nur welches?

Have you already made your mind? mediaonline offer of msi s260 for 699 was the best for the money. If you absolutely need dvi-out you have to invest around 1100 euro to another subnotebook (see the best subnoteook thread), or to buy usb to dvi adaptor. I think I have seen those. Try to google.

Ich habe mir das Lidl Book reservieren lassen und suche momentan nach Alternativen. Das mediaonline Angebot ist mir im Vergleich dazu zu schlecht (wenig Zubehör)

Was sagst Du zu refurbished Books? Shopempfehlungen?

Maybe a factory refurbished FS subnotebook would be a solution for you, if it exists in Germany (like Dell has its shop for refurbished notebooks in USA).

If they are refurbished, not second hand, and of centrino generation and later,
I would take the risk, if it were my first notebook and I would be financially restricted. I haven't checked the link to be more specific.

I haven't seen factory refurbished notebooks there. Moreover, there seem to be no subnotebooks there, so it is out of my competence.

So, bin auch wieder auf der Suche nach einem kleinen, ruhigen 12" Notebook.
Existieren denn die ganzen Fehler bei beiden noch ? Akkufehler ? Lüfterfehler ? Was auch immer, oder wurden die beseitigt ?
