Subject: AW: Ask a question HDD 4kb sector size supported by 1261ML
Hello Kevin Wang,
okay, thanks for the info. But you are not totally correct, as far as I know..
There is the first drive Samsung F4 /Z4 that will report 4k to the controller. I got this Information from Samsung.
So I think it will only be a matter of time when hdd manufacturers will start to use 4k drives in their enterprise segment, too.
So to get you right: Use is possible but not recommended as for you have no explicit support for 4kb drives by now.
Best regards

Dear Sir/Madam,
our controllers do not have any feature especially designed for 4K sector drives.
these drives report 512B sector size to controller like common drive did not 4KB. the 4KB is the hard drive internal size. so use these drives with our controllers is possible but not recommended.
because hard drive vendors do not support desktop drives in array applications, and it may not reliable enought for array applications like enterprise drives did.
and as i known, these 4KB drives is cost down product not performance one, we do not expect these drives have good performace like common drives did.

Hello Areca,
I am an owner of your 1261ML and am very pleased.
I am thinking about buying new HDDs. Now more an more manufacturers switch to 4KB sector size.
Like WD in the EARS series (advanced format disks) or Samsung with their F4 series…
Are 4kb sector size hdds supported by the 1261ML. And if not will there be a firmware update?!
Best regards.
