Und das, obwohl ich die Kalibrierung schon habe durchlaufen lassen :-/

Unter Debian 10 Live komme ich auch nicht unter 16 Watt. Lediglich als ich powertop --calibrate ausgefuehrt habe, kam ich fuer einen kurzen Moment auf 8 Watt. :-/

Was mache ich falsch?

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS mit GNOME 3.28.1 und 4.15.0-20-generic; frisch aufgesetzt.

Woran mag das liegen?

Ohne LAN komme ich immerhin auf 13w. Mein Traum von einem stromsparenden Linux Selbstbau NAS schwinden aber gerade :-/

Das wird das Problem sein schätze ich. Ich würde mal gucken ob hiervon was passt:

Ansonsten sehe ich auch keinen Grund 20.04 nicht zu nutzen.
Als GUI nutze ich meist xubuntu und mate, wobei man sich das beim Server ja sparen könnte.
 
So! Ich habe 20.04 Server installiert, neugestartet,. Danach habe ich mich per SSH verbunden und powertop installiert, neugestartet, powertop kalibriert und auto-tune ausgeführt.

Vermutlich da ich nun außer LAN nichts angeschlossen habe, ist der Verbrauch um 1 Watt auf 14,x gesunken.

In PC6 geht er aber nicht (siehe Anhang). RC6 sagt mir nix :-?

Was steht im Reiter nach Device Stats?
Die gleiche BIOS einstellung ging unter Windows auf PC6 runter?
 
RC6 wird erreicht. Ich nutze nur eine SSD als Speicher. Hier ist auch Ubuntu drauf installiert. Kann die dann runterfahren?!

Device Stats habe ich ebenfalls beigefügt.

Ob es die identischen BIOS Settings zu Windows sind, kann ich nicht zu 100 % sagen, weil Ubuntu sich eingangs mit diesen Settings nicht installieren lassen wollte. Ich habe das BIOS dann auf Default gesetzt und nach der Installation versucht es wieder auf die Windows Settings zu setzen.

Ich installiere mal eben Windows und dann schauen wir mal!

Nach einer frischen Win10 und Treiber Installation ist der Verbrauch auch nicht mehr unter 15 Watt gesunken. Zwei BIOS Einstellungen brachte da Abhilfe: anschließend war ich wieder bei 9,X Watt im Idle. Ich werde nun schauen, ob ich durch Änderungen im BIOS noch tiefer komme. Und dann installiere ich mit diesem BIOS nochmal Ubuntu

Ja, das ist immer der erste Schritt.
 
Merkwürdigerweise geht der Verbrauch unter Windows auch nur dann runter, wenn ich Throttlestop gestartet habe. :-?
 
Das sollte eigentlich nicht so sein. Windows10? Energiespareinstellungen geprüft? Updates und Treiber alle drauf?
Ich meinte übrigens den Reiter Tunables in powertop, wusste nur nicht wie er bei dir heißt weil er bei mir komplett anders übersetzt war ;)
 
Du solltest versuchen, irgendwie auf pc6 zu kommen, das würde ne Menge ausmachen. pc3 ist eher typisch, wenn man noch ne dedizierte Grafikkarte drin hat oder ein ältereres DVD-Laufwerk.
 
Habe nun meine BIOS Einstellungen gefunden. Komme auf 8,x Watt im Idle (mit Monitor, LAN, Tastatur und Maus per PS2).

Diesen Wert konnte ich auch durch Undervolting nicht verringern. Unter Prime Last brachte mir Undervolting etwa -10 Watt. Dort liege ich dann bei 35 Watt.

Leider hat das Undervolting auch hat keinen merklichen Einfluss auf den Verbrauch beim alltäglichen Arbeiten. Hier Verbrauch das System stets etwa 15-16 Watt.

Versuchsweise habe ich in den Windows Energiespareinstellungen einmal die maximale Prozessorleistung auf das Minimum (=800mhz) herabgesetzt. Das brachte einen maximalen Verbrauch von 19 Watt. Auf Idle- und Alltagsverbrauch hatte auch diese Massnahme keine Auswirkungen.

Ebenfalls keine Auswirkungen hatte die Reduktion auf einen Prozessorkern.

Ich Frage mich, ob ich mit einem sparsameren Prozessor (z.B. G1820) niedriger landen könnte?

Mit diesen BIOS Settings werde ich nun nochmal Ubuntu Server probieren.
 
Ein Prozessor hat wenig bis keine Auswirkungen auf den verbrauch auf der gleichen Plattform.
Welchen C-State erreichst du denn unter Windows?
 
Bei einem Board hatte ein DVD-Laufwerk was nicht benutzt wurde, aber angeschlossen war unter Linux (Powertop)die pkg (hw) C-States blockiert, was auch immer pkg hw bedeutet. Damit hing es bei C2 fest, nachdem ich das Laufwerk mal abgemacht hatte, war nun C7 möglich.
 
Unter Windows erreiche ich C-State 6.

Danke für den Hinweis. Ich habe leider nur Mainboard, CPU, SSD und RAM installiert. Da kann ich nix entfernen :(

ich habe nun wieder Ubuntu Server installiert - mit den erprobten BIOS Settings. Leider komme ich nicht unter 14,x Watt. Hier die powertop Screenshots.

Das Problem ist fehlendes PC6. Wie viel Watt hast du denn unter Windows mit PC6?

Unter Windows habe ich mit zusätzlichem Bildschirm, Tastatur und Maus 8 Watt.

Kann eine andere Distribution helfen?
 
Irgendein Gerät verhindert, daß der PC in die hohen C-States kommt. Wobei "Gerät" auch so etwas wie der Onboard-LAN-Chip sein kann. Daß das unter Windows geht, aber unter Linux nicht, liegt dann am Treiber. Ne andere Distribution wird da wahrscheinlich nicht helfen, ausgeschlossen ist es aber nicht. Ich würde aber eher mal versuchen, im BIOS nach und nach alles, was geht, zu deaktivieren: WLAN, LAN, Sound, Webcam, USB, SATA, usw. - so etwa in der Reihenfolge.
 
@sweetchuck: ich werde mal schauen, was ich noch deaktivieren kann. LAN und SATA kann ich aber bspw nicht deaktivieren, denn dann kann ich auf den Headless Server nicht mehr zugreifen.

Erstmal geht es darum, den oder die Übeltäter zu finden. Dann kann man schauen, ob man das praxistauglich bekommt, z.B. durch einen anderen Treiber.
