Apart from overclocking old hardware, i also like old Volvo's and uhh well... "overclocking" them. This is my daily driver now for three years already:
In those three years i did some modifications to the car. I really like the OEM (sleeper) look of the car and it's plushy suspension for comfort reasons. But under the bonnet, some things have been altered. The original engine (2.3 Litre, 8 Valve, 4 Cylinder) is still in the car, but it's turbocharged now. The cylinder head's ports and combustion chambers have been ported together with bigger intake and exhaust valves. The turbo that's on it is meant for the Volvo T5 engine and currently tops out at about ~280hp. Stronger rods have also been fitted and the cylinders have been honed. The stock ECU has been swapped with a Megasquirt III ECU that's got all kinds of tuning options, even for dual fuel operation and boost control.
Dual fuel is needed because it isn't that fuel efficient and petrol is expensive here in the Netherlands. LPG (Propane/Butane mix) is far cheaper and enables me to drive it on a daily basis. (even better, it's my only car at the moment) It can be tuned for both fuels seperately and i can switch between them on the fly. The LPG fuel system does need 8 LPG injectors though to keep up with the power, 2 per cylinder.
The gearbox has been swapped for a stronger 5 speed from a Volvo 940 and a Volvo 850R clutch has been fitted because the original drivetrain just couldn't cope with the additional power.
The car is seriously quick now and a blast to drive. It's always nice to see the reaction when some sports car couldn't beat me at the traffic light
