Wenn ich hier sehe, was alles rumliegt.

Does anybody know what the best chipset is for Opteron 200 series?
I saw NF2200, is that any good?

Most of the Boards I saw with some OC were the nForce 2200 variety, like K8N-DL, K8N-DRE and I think the Tyan Tiger K8WE are quite popular.
Very rare but also an option is the MSI K8N Master2-FAR, this one also has the nForce 2200 with several OC options (according to the manual).
Still hoping to find one of these MSI some day, but as I said, very rare to come by.

There is a sister board K8T Master as well, which uses a VIA chipset and I think stunned_guy told me that this one has no OC options whatsoever.

I had one of those Rioworks HDAMA Boards once and I think OC was virtually impossible there.
But maybe I just had the wrong clockgen/setFSB for it, definitely nothing from the BIOS side and the AMD Chipset was probably not a priority for OC back then.

I saw some Asus K8N-DRE for acceptable prices. SO these could work out and be Ok. That is good to know.

I can't vouch for the Asus K8N-DRE but I would hope that the BIOS is similar to the K8N-DL, which features at least some basic settings.
From the K8N-DL there is chipset and mem voltage, some memory dividers, basic timing settings and busclock, sadly only +50mV for cpu voltage.

Tyan Thunder K8SRE and Supermicro H8DCE-HTe seem to allow at least some way (software or BIOS) to alter clocks as well.

K8N-DRE got AMI Bios while K8N-DL got Award. Also DRE is missing "fsb" frequency setting in bios, but DL got it. I'd say the boards are quite different.

This is not the H8DCE-HTe, but the standard H8DCE (without suffix). You can spot the heatsink without fan (-HTe has a fan on that heatsink). Furthermore the topmost slot is PCIex4, not HTe. HwBot has a lot of errors in retro hardware scores, or the members intentionally submit wrong data.

I can tell that the H8DCE does NOT have any overclocking options within the BIOS, except for memory timings and memory divider. Every memory divider above 200MHz (read: 216, 233, 250) reverts back to 200. There is no way to enable hidden settings (I tried it, bricked the BIOS chip and hotflashed it back.) You can try some overclocking via nTune. There is a version that works with Windows 7 x64. I'm not sure if nTune really works, because I only tried overclocking my Dual 290s. An increase of 5MHz on the HT clock crashed the system. Didn't check for maxHT with lowered CPU multi. Maybe it's time to reanimate that 600W heat monster and try some serious stuff ;)

Reasons to use K8N-DL: Overclocking
Reasons to use H8DCE: SLI and maximum amount of memory
The direct competitor to the H8DCE is the K8WE. The latter has a different chipset interconnection layout and needs two CPUs to fully function.

Just a quick question. Is there a general thread for the HWBot Teamcup where other parts are being discussed?
(I just remembered I bought 5x Phenom X2 550 BE, 5x Sempron 140 and 5x Sempron 145 and a bunch of the proper DDR2 dimms ealier this year)

Afaik no. There's a HWBot Team Thread, but not a single post since almost 12 months ;)

Hat hier jemand K8N-DL gesagt? 😅

Mmh, vielleicht zwei FX-57? Oder einen FX-57 mit gutem Stepping?

Also mir fällt schon etwas ein, was man mehr wollen würde... :fresse:

jk, good find/great deal! :)
