Load Testing Audio Impressions
The Enermax Revolution 1050W carries forward many of the features of previous Enermax power supplies and indeed its noise output is a decent portion of the units advertising. This advertising includes points such as:
AirGuard: Patented air-inlet with optimal aero-dynamical design reducing noisy air turbulences.
SILENT ready: Ultra-quiet 13.5cm fan with intelligent RPM control guarantees cool performance and silent operation.
Now while some of these points are just really fancy names for common principles (AirGuard for beveled edge) the actual engineering principles and design of this unit gives it about as many chances to be quiet as any unit we have seen to date. For instance the Revolution has excellent efficiency (actually the best we have ever seen), a large fan, and historically Enermax units have had good fan controllers so an additional good pedigree. As such, it really wasn't that surprising that this unit was one of the quietest if not the quietest 1000 watt+ units we have seen to date (excluding the Koolance 1300w). At no time was this unit loud, or really even audible during load testing or when I had the unit out and running outside of the incubator. In addition, this unit did seem to control its exhaust temperature indicating that Enermax has also balanced the need for cooling with this quiet operation. Surely, the units AMAZING efficiency helped seeing as it had less wasted energy to exhaust so maybe it isn't such a surprise the unit was so very quiet after all. No matter how you look at it, the best 1000 watt+ unit we have ever heard.
